He was an unusually powerful demigod, the offspring of a mortal living in Shadowglen and the all-powerful Keith. Keith returned to tend the world of Subeta as all great gods must do, and Urquhmat was raised alone by his mother.

Urquhmat’s eagle-like appearance was a mystery to all, and disappointingly common, unlike the unearthly appearance of Maleria or the almighty Keith. But even so, he was fearsome to behold, and not only because he was the size of the average dragon. His beak and talons were dark iron color, as hard as crystal and as sharp as razors. His beak was strong and cruelly curved and his eyes were as black as pitch, the kind of black that absorbs all light into itself, eyes which were cast into shadow by the fierce hoods above them. His body was lean and powerful, his talons large enough to crush a man in their grip, and his wings vast enough to fill the cavern he dwelled in if fully spread.

After he had been born, his mother had been awed to be the one to bear a son of the almighty Keith, and cared for Urquhmat to the point of indulgence. Urquhmat did not like her overprotective care however, and at a young age began to sneak out of the house to roam Shadowglen at night, where the residents found him very sheltered. They indoctrinated him in their ways and gradually his demeanor began to darken. In addition to his darkening countenance, he discovered that he had powers, powers that the others didn’t have. He could make things happen, things to hurt those who were mean to him, to make people give him things that he wanted. Of course, it was paltry compared to Keith or Maleria, but it was powerful none the less.

Delighted, Urquhmat ran away from his mother with thoughts to make his own living. After a year or so he found a suitable cave in a deserted area around the Darkside and made it his residence. Deep inside, in the darkest corners of his new home, he experimented with his magic. He managed to wipe the minds of some small creatures and replace their free will with creeping servility. Pleased, he released them into the wild, and watched with amusement as the humans there caught them and named them Minions. Later he found a native creature lurking near his cave and captured it. He named it Ashendarei, then raised and trained it to be his weapon, to wreak havoc upon his command. He kept the animal by his side at all times, for it was useful for intimidation if the need arose.
