Past Life; Quenton was produced by a long gone company for plush toys in 1934; plans failed due to the economy plummeting around 1942. He was one of the very few created with this particular design. Ronald McCarthy had purchased Quenton for his eight year old daughter, Alice McCarthy, in hopes of helping her overcome the harshness of pneumonia. Unfortunately Alice did not recover and the sickness took over her entire body forcing Ronald to make the difficult decision of selling his beloved farmhouse. Heart broken, he decided to leave his daughter's last close possession in the upstairs attic where she had spent her last few weeks in bed. Quenton has remained underplayed with since 1942. Little did Mr. McCarthy know, his daughter's tears were special, their love and innocence brought Quenton to life slowly and surely. By the last night of her praying at the foot of her bed, Alice's last wish was granted and Quenton came to life. He smiled and gave her a wet kiss on the side of her cheek. She crawled into bed and together they slept soundly together for one last time.
Interests;Coming to life, participating in tea parties, cuddling, sleeping, car rides (if he is ever to experience one), collecting threads and stones, Spending time with Rinna, naps
Dislikes; Filth and dust, loneliness, ghosts, the dark, strangers, being dropped
And I feel just like I'm living someone else's life
It's like I just stepped outside
When everything was going right
And I know just why you could not
Come along with me
This was not your dream
But you always believed in me
Another winter day has come
And gone away
In either Paris or Rome
And I wanna go home
Let me go home
Creaky floorboards were everywhere; a film of thin gray dust filled the air. Boxes were stacked in an unorganized manner and the entire attic was a filthy mess. It hadn't been cleaned in over fifteen years or so it seemed. One thing was for sure; the tone had been set to complete silence.
If you took a close enough look, there were a few floorboards that seemed a bit off. The wood splintered at the edges and the corners were slightly gapped. A dim light from beneath peered through just enough to be noticed if you gazed hard enough. Deep below the floorboards, the mood was different than above. Muffled laughter could be heard. Under the floorboards a hidden room separated itself from the rest of the old barn. A squishy little fellow thrived in that room on nothing more than pretend tea and literature. The flame of two wax candles flickered and swayed back and forth. Piles of books sat, some were untouched and covered with dust. Others had torn pages and faded covers from over use.
Quenton poured himself a cup and sipped it slowly while applying sound affects. Just to his left was a creaky wooden slide that seemed untrustworthy to anyone more weighing more than ten pounds. Quenton sighed and rolled his eyes as Unused continuously bounced on the above boards.
"What is it, what could you possibly want?" Quenton tried to stay focused on Alice's empty china cup.
"Lets go play by the old willow Cue! I'm bored and no one wants to play with me. Will you, please? If you're not busy that is.."
Quenton squeezed his eyes shut. He felt guilty and obligated to go play with Unused. She begged him multiple times weekly at the least and he usually refused. This time he felt he should do the exact opposite and see what the obsession with this old tree was. "Alright, lets go." Quenton lifted his head up through the boards and gave her a fake smile. "Under one condition however, I do not get filthy, there are no unexpected guests, and we get back before dark, is that a deal?"
Unused squealed and jumped up in joy. "Deal!" She jumped into Quenton's little 'hide-out,' grabbed his paw firmly, and pulled him down the slide right behind her. She giggled and laughed the entire way down while Quenton covered his eye's in fear.
As they made their way to the old Willow, they were greeted by a wonderful display of color and happiness. Lillies, Daffodils, Orchids, Cherry Blossoms, and other amazing flowers laced around the dead Willow's limbs. Ribbons of all colors wrapped around the very large trunk. Sweet treats lay beautifully on the surrounding grass. Candles, unlit, formed the shape of many hearts. And some of Quenton's favorite poems and quotes were carved into the tree very carefully. His eyes grew large, his heart raced fast, and a smile he couldn't hide was definitely showing. "What is all this? Why is this tree decorated so beautifully?"
Unused smiled and looked at Quenton deeply. "I know how sad you are. You're always playing Tea Party by yourself, reading the same books year after year. You NEVER leave the attic and always look so sad and depressed. There is a life beyond your little hole. I just want you to see that there is a beautiful world filled with color and life; you are missing out on a lot. Please, come out and Play. Myself, Kandice, Skippy, Rinna, we all miss you dearly. You haven't breathed fresh air in over three years. I promise you, Alice will forever be in your heart. You have to move on."
Quenton nodded and stared at the tree; taking in the beauty and colors. Knowing Unused had made a huge effort he realized what a jerk he had been to this sweet giving child. "Thank you, thank you very much. I haven't felt like this since the last night I spent with my dear Alice. Its very nice."
