The story of Rachel Paula Astley begins in a orphanage. She's been living there since she was a mere infant, 5 months short of being a year old. Following a freak accident at a certain bed and breakfast, where the whole building was burnt down, her parents died in their efforts to get her out of the building. When fire fighters finally came, answering the bed and breakfast's female owner's frantic calls, it was too late. Apart from the owners; a married couple, where the male owner had left the building to get groceries from the nearby Walmart and the female owner was lying in bed reading a book when she smelt the fire - or rather, what it was burning, there were only two survivors: a pair of infants. As the infants' parents did not specify who was to care for them should they pass, they were sent to an orphanage a town away to be raised until they reach legal age, or until their lucky day arrives, and a kind and loving person adopts them. The two infants were given new names, and with the names a new life - a fresh slate.As time went on, the boy got adopted first, while the girl stayed in the orpanage for another year, until she too, got adopted. Rachel grew up to be a beautiful young lady, who excelled in school, both in studies and extracurricular activities, in which she was a member of her school's touch rugby team. She continued her studies in university, where she graduated with a PhD in Clinical Psychology. It started as an interest - what makes people the way they are? What reasoning could possibly be behind the people who do crazy things because of their mental illnesses? What is behind all of these weird feelings she's had since she was a child - the unexplainable sadness and loneliness despite having many friends, and loving parents who double up as her confidantes./tbc
