- casual merboy (147 years old, young by mer-standards, but old in comparison to humans, etc. looks like he's 17)
- nicknamed percy because it's cute
- favorite place to hangout is the remains of a weathered old boat called the SS Magnolia (sea floor)
- collects seashells, some of which he can play music with (sort of like a trumpet? - need to research)
- lives in the lost city of atlantis, ends up falling in love with a selkie named florence oops
- his father, a reasonably influential merman, finds out and gets super angry and warns off percy but he doesn't listen and keeps seeing the selkie anyway
- his father finds out but instead of being a reasonable merman he goes SLDKJFSLD DON'T U DISOBEY ME BOY - doesn't confront percy, but instead sabotages florence (who hides her selkie skin among some fronds and rocks, always the same ones) by bribing some dumb seagulls with bread and stuff to steal her skin. he takes it and hides it in a locked trunk that used to belong to his wife (now dead - idk how since merpeople are immortal... uh maybe eaten by a large creature in a cave or s/t)
- florence doesn't return b/c she can't w/o her skin and spends her days longingly staring into the sea. she finds residence in a cottage close to the water (like seriously close she could probably take a running leap out her window and land into the water okay that is slightly exaggerating but yes the cottage is close to the water okay)
- percy pines after florence but cannot do anything about it so instead he just sort of withers away. one day he decides to visit his mother's bedroom (yes okay his parents didn't share a bedroom merpeople are selfish and weird) b/c his mother gave him a key to the locked trunk before she died (OH HO HO there were two keys WHAT A PLOT TWIST so yeah percy's father [who really ought to have a name huh] doesn't know about the second key)
- percy was really only looking to find and to try playing his mother's super rare and sentimental shell in the trunk (she was a fantastic shell musician) but he discovers the skin and becomes super pissed
- returns her skin to florence, but finds out that she has fallen in love with a local, curly-headed boy (landlubber obvs). before she can regret it, she tosses the selkie skin into a bonfire on the beach while percival is watching
- and then percy is sad and spends his days playing sad tunes on shells and stuff and has become famous around atlantis and if you hear a melancholy tune playing then it is probably percy
- that is pretty much it okay this story is not a happy one
