Data log entry #01

It's been several weeks since I first arrived. I've blended in successfully with the local fauna. The elderly being who found me and continues to house me remains unaware that I am anything more than a spoiled, pampered house pet. To keep up this facade, I need only to wag my rear appendage, stick out my tasting receptacle, and maybe throw in a few vocal responses as well. The elderly being seems pleased and successfully fooled by my behaviors. She refers to me as 'Missy' and takes me on short trips around her general living perimeters. It's a good way to scout the area and further intergrade myself into their odd society.

The sustenance I am provided is generally acceptable, but by in large it is a far cry from the cuisine I am familiar with. It is normally served to me on the ground, in a crude, plastic dish with my pseudo-name imprinted onto the front of it. Sometimes it is more firm and difficult to bite into at first, and sometimes it is soft and malleable. I enjoy the softer entree.

The bedding I have been given is quite exquisite. It consists of a thick mat, with several smaller mats at its head. A loosely draped, thin material of what appears to be a mixture of cotton and satin - both materials I've researched to be in abundance on this planet - protects the bedding from prying eyes, which allows me to write this data entry in peace.

I have made several attempts to contact the base and report my findings, but the signal is never strong enough to make a connection. I will have to attempt to find a higher spot and try again, perhaps when the elderly being has retired to their bedding for the moon cycle.

Data log entry #12

The elderly being who cares for me did something encouraging at the beginning of this day cycle. Instead of fixing herself a meal she focused entirely on me, giving me my favorite entree, the soft dish with smaller, circular green orbs within it, swimming in its own delicious gravy. I must admit this "food" is growing on me. In fact, I seem to be growing as well, because of it...

Data entry #39

Today was an eventful day. The elderly being, whom I've learned goes by the name Maybel, took me outside of our domicile for the first time since I landed on this water rock. Unfortunately, I was unable to scout far from her, as she had affixed a crude device around my torso and frontal region. It allowed me some mobility, but only about ten kelgons from her in any direction. However, while out on this maneuver, I thought I had come across others like me. I had nearly forgotten that I was the sole being sent to this particular star system! I was blending in so well, my own disguise was beginning to fool even me!

Today, Maybel took me to a cleansing parlor at what she called a "mall outlet". I must figure out how this electrical device works and what purpose it serves... But that is an experiment for another time. The members of the cleansing parlor trimmed my outer coat and bathed me, and while they were drying my coat, they also applied a thin sheet of brightly colored gel to the tips of my pseudo-limbs. At the end of our visit, they spritzed me with some pleasant-scented liquid and sent me back to Maybel. I feel it's somewhat odd that I find relief in seeing her familiar visage nowadays.

Data entry...From there the pages are shredded by what appear to be teeth, and asleep in their basket across the room sits Missy, snoring peacefully.
