You enter the tiny wooden hut, closing the rough-hewn door behind yourself with a clatter. Smoke swirls through the single room, twisting patterns in the air currents like archaic messages for anyone who knows the language. The interior of the room is lined with shelves filled with jars. Glancing at the ones closest to yourself, you see withered flowers, animal parts, human parts, and dark, viscous liquids. A few feet away from you is a cloaked figure hunched over a cauldron. As if your attention brought it to life, the figure turns to you, a sickening grin on its' snout.
"Welcome! Welcome! What can I provide for you?" The voice cracks as the figure limps closer before turning sharply to the left. "A curse? A potion?" The figure fights briefly to open the window. As it yields to his struggles, a cool breeze sweeps into the room, spinning the smoke into wild new patterns before dissipating it outside with no encouragement from either of you.
The removal of the obscuring smoke reveals more of the room. A book propped close to the cauldron and the remaining items on the surrounding shelves. An uneasy feeling engulfs you at the implements for dark magic surrounding you. The warlock - and there is nothing else he could be- waves a paw at an old, gnarled rocking chair, "Now sit. Sit! Make yourself comfortable." He leans forward eagerly, "You have the payment up front, I assume?"
You are silent, no longer so sure about the whole idea, to say the least of the payment he will require. At your reticence, his smile fades and a low growl fills the silence. His paw gestures angrily at the door, "Leave then!" He hisses and tilts the rocker so you slide onto the floor, "Get out and come back when you are willing to pay for my services! Nothing comes for free." You scramble from the hut, his snarl following your fearful run.

HISTORY

Kano had been entranced with magic since his earliest memories. As a youth, most of his interest centered around being better and faster at magic than those around him who dabbled.
Seeing him today, you would never know that he did not start on the path of dark magic. His goals were to help those he could, finding inspiration from his parents who focused on white magic. He had glowing memories of them healing people and pets, helping crops grow, giving businesses a boost, averting disasters. For a while, his family was loved. For just a little while.
As is always the case, bad things happened. People who couldn't be saved, crops that wouldn't grow, disasters that couldn't be averted. Despite the years the Shiro family devoted to helping their community, those very same people turned on them. Blame was cast on them. Rumors flew fast and viscious
They were cursing the village.
They sold their souls to the devil for more power.
They were evil the whole time, just lulling the village into trust.
They were selling the souls of the villagers to the devil.
His parent's protests went unheeded. The villagers came in an angry mob one night, taking the adults and leaving a distraught teen behind. Convinced that punishment of the parents would teach the fifteen year old a lesson, they left him uninjured.
They were right about that, it did teach him a lesson. Just not the one they intented to send. If good would be blamed for evil despite the evidence- if trust couldn't save you when danger screamed for your blood at the door, what was the point of learning white magic? The villagers snatched him from the path of good and shoved him on his first shaking steps down the path of evil.
At the age of twenty, when Kano mastered all he could learn, he took revenge for his parents in a way that would have horrified them. He destroyed crops and brought disease on those who did not heed his parents pleas. Once satisfied with the utter destruction of the town, Kano retreated to the forest where he continued to study the dark arts and offer his services. For a fee...
