Eyes set to the east, Del watches the wind shift the trees this way and that, the grass a heavy blanket that sways with the rhythm the sky has set.

Symberos sits heavy on his shoulder, talons sturdy but careful on his leather jerkin. He's clean for once, feathers black and white and distinct against the green around them. A trill low in the vulture's throat as Delcan running fingers through his soft crest absent-mindedly, thoughtful.

"Where are the girls, my friend?" He asks the bird.

"How should I know?" The response is not unkind, if a bit scathing. Del side-eyes him, but is soon grinning.

"Fair enough."

The longbow, draped in his feathered belt, rests against the charred trunk. At his back is a scar, a black wreck of dirt and ash and the skeletons of trees, long since burned. Lifting the bow, Delcan rubs the ash off it's handle, staring with a heavy heart at the grim alcove. It isn't large, but it's large enough to bear the evidence of his sins, of his brother's mistakes. Del bows his head, looks at his feet, and sees a sprig of green, peaking through the dirt.

"It will come back," Symberos says, beak clicking by his ear. "Nothing lasts forever, not even magic."

Delcan breathes through his nose, and smiles.
