I...didn't have a great start to life. I wound up a sick little Ruffie with a taste for blood. BloodRed colouration does some NASTY things to your psyche after a while. Stronger pets have zero issues controlling and curbing the sudden thirst for red meat dripping crimson fluid, but...I didn't have that control. I lacked it. Sorely. Over time, it completely warped me and my mind, and I maimed nearly every owner that tried to befriend me, and had at it with every pet that tried to either make friends or accept me as a sister.

The inside of the pound was pretty much all I knew for a very long time. So I suppose it was kinda odd, and a little disconcerting, when I finally heard footsteps come down the hall where I slept and lived in almost complete isolation.

I wasn't friendly when I saw her face peering in at me through the bars, and I probably made the Dragarth that was with her take a few steps back out of sheer nerves when I curled my lips at them. I heard a few things, vocal exchanges like how long had I been there, how long I'd been in isolation, and just how many people had tried and failed to get to know me - all answers as brilliantly bad as their numerous attempts. I didn't trust anyone, I was bad to the bone and I had taken fingers that had gotten too close. Didn't seem to stop her or the Dragarth, though he was wary as hell when his owner said she'd like to spend time with me alone in my isolation cell. He was vocal about not letting her do that, saying one swift attack would be all it took to injure her. She replied I was so far gone I couldn't know any better. She said she'd seen this before, on one of his other siblings a very long time ago. It was why she was Reborn now. She said I still had a chance to change, if I would let her near her.

Now, people don't really get what the BloodRed colouration can do, and has done in the past. Some pets have very strong wills and can resist the many voices, the shadows, the crimson lust as its known, from whispering in their ears. Pets like me, who give in when pain oversteps its mark, are a different story. When we are far too far gone, when the sickness embeds itself into our psyches and poisons us, we can become worse than Nightmare pets. We are fuelled by an ancient evil, a thirst that cannot be curbed or sated except through forceful recolouration means. And we refuse to let go of the hold it has on us. Some of us have had to be physically restrained, a tube led down our throats to fully ingest the elixir intended to heal us from within. Some of us fight so hard we deliberately choke on the fluid. Some of us have even died doing so. The tendrils of evil dig very deep and they do not relenquish us easily. Which is why, when this girl said she intended to cure me, I became one of the raging beasts like so many before me had been.

It was a very tense standoff between her and I. I failed to notice anything out of the ordinary when she came too close and I leapt for her arm. As I suspected, she raised it in defense. My jaws clamped down so hard I heard something crack, and then that beautiful crimson fluid filled my mouth, overpowering my senses. I swallowed with relish, several times, over and over again before my brain caught up with me and I realised I was not tasting the salty blood I craved so much of. It was warm, it was red...but it was not blood. It took a few more seconds to realise that I hadn't broken her arm, rather I had broken a seal inside of her jacket that had concealed an elixir's fluid.

The pound volunteers had told her I attacked anyone who carried a visible elixir. So she had concealed hers, and tricked me into attacking her by invading my personal space. It was a risky move, and it was one I hadn't hesitated on. I closed my eyes and released her arm, pawing at my mouth, trying to clear my tastebuds of whatever potion I had ingested. One moment I was staring through heterochromia-infused eyes...and the next, I saw the world through crystal blue ones...

I remember very little after that.

I do know that I chanced to wake up during the journey home and I was safe in the arms of the girl I'd attacked, her Dragarth sitting by her side. I felt her hand scritching gently at my ear and I fell asleep, strangely comforted. It took many weeks before I felt strong enough to move from my own room, in my own house, with a backyard so big it stretched for miles amongst woodland and stream. The girl I learned was VeeJayHedgehog. She had a large family, all different species of pets, and all as warm and as welcoming and as kind as she was. I recollect that I spent the past six months slowly coming to terms without the voices, the thirst for bloody meat and the intentions to cause harm. I had many nightmares, dreams where all of my past came back to haunt me. It took several of the very bad nightmares to chance the realisation that it was not my recolouration that had triggered them, but the fact I was still the same species. VJ offered me the chance to set foot onto the two platforms that led to the Pet Zapper, which is why I stand before you, completely transformed now :)

I am now a Galactic Jollin, and I soar with the stars! I've also since become rather obsessed with cute things...especially cute bunny things with long ears like mine =3
