The man was careless. No, not more careless than others for he knew this area quite well. He had spent many years hunting in its forests and using the wood from trees for his fires. He knew where it was safe and where people had strayed and never returned. He was strong and well accustomed but who is smarter than Mother Nature? As the man stepped through the woods, he did not know that he would die that day. He had seen the animals steer clear of the spot, but he had no idea why. While there are many forces in the world, curiosity is one that burns from within. And as the man stepped into the too moist spot in the dirt and sank down a bit, he bent down and touched the sticky liquid that had mixed with the soil. He let out a gasp as he realized what it was - blood. He took a step back, tripping on the tendrils that seemed to have appeared out of nowhere. As they snaked their black arms around his body and began to squeeze him the man let out his last scream, a fatal mistake. The last sight the man saw was what looked like a huge, black plant grinning maliciously at him before he blacked out.
