It was a quiet evening. Well, as quiet as it can ever be in the college dorms where everyone was out celebrating Halloween. Everyone apart from Antony "Ant" Fable and Lauren Johnes. Two of them were locked in the dorm they shared, fused together in a passionate kiss with what appeared to be the rest of the college screaming, moaning and groaning out in the halls and on the streets. Antony and Lauren refused to pay any attention to the thuds of music and the shattering of the bottles, concentrating hard on each other. That's when it came. The shattering of the glass was so loud that Lauren let out an involuntary squeak of fear as Antony shoved his girlfriend behind him, arms up, ready to fight. One of the windows looking out onto the park was now broken, a shadow standing among the shards, looking darker as it was framed by the soft lights coming from the outside. The shadow moved towards the couple without care where it was taking steps. For a moment, the glass crunched beneath its heavy boots and then the silhouette became a silent stalker once it moved onto a clean carpet.
"Get back!" Antony barked, feeling Lauren shivering against him. This gave him a boost of bravery. He was determined to protect her.
The figure ignored the command. Judging by its height and broad shoulders, the silhouette belonged to a man. No one in the circle of Antony's friends and acquaintances fitted the breadth of this caliber. Antony felt his stomach sink a little when the shadow moved even closer. Without making a sound, Antony moved, striking out, aiming for the temple. The figure dodged with ease and launched himself onto Antony. Lauren let out another squeal but it was drowned out by thudding that appeared to be on the inside of his head. The searing pain, however, told him that it was from suffering a heavy blow to his face with the stranger's fist.
