Did you know that bacon is one of the oldest types of cured meat inn the world? The Chinese first made it in 1200 BC. Even the name is ancient. It's thought to come from a prehistoric Germanic word route, 'bak' which means back, as in the back of an animal.

Bacon is a food that is truly loved world wide, and throughout all of history. Bacon is not the same in all places though, as there are many different ways to cure it, and can be taken from many different cuts of the pig.

The Romans even had a type of bacon known as petaso, which was pig boiled with figs and then seasoned with pepper sauce.

Bacon is actually addictive, and not just because it's so tasty. It's because it naturally contains something that produces and addictive neurochemical response called umami. It also contains something called Choline which is good for pregnant women as it helps with fetal brain development.
