Alecai

He/him | Librarian's Assistant/Student

Alecai is the teenage librarian’s apprentice to Cynreena. His mother was a teacher at the institution attached to the archival library, and Alecai snuck into the archive often, despite the institute’s many open places for a young pet to play. Alecai ran into Cynreena often enough that the two formed a mock rivalry, and eventually a friendship. Cynreena, reminded of herself at a young age, indulged Alecai’s interest in the reading material, and Alecai took a particular interest in fairytales. He’s currently writing his own paper on the subject, though with full amused awareness he doesn’t have much knowledge outside of the archive.

While Alecai’s relationship with his parents was somewhat distant, them being much more inclined to socializing in ways that Alecai never enjoyed, his mother did approve of him taking an official apprenticeship under Cynreena, so long as he also took up studying at the institute; the two agreed. Post Cynreena’s run-in with Merana, and her now-frequent expeditions outside the library, Alecai has taken over more of her duties and quietly reduced his courseload. It is, as far as he’s concerned, a perfectly fine arrangement.

While Cynreena is a bit cynical and pragmatic, Alecai is cheerful and rather carefree, so long as he isn’t pressed into a situation where formality is expected or there are too many strangers. He’s always delighted to help find information for Cynreena and her party, especially if he can in-turn pick their brains on a subject or get them to look over a section of his paper.
