Nicodemus had never known life outside of a laboratory. He was born in captivity and immediately placed in an intelligence study somewhere in the bowels of a university, away from public knowledge. Each day the scientists laced the food and water with a new trial drug thought to increase ones intelligence level.

The drug was a success... sort of.

While the wyllops in the study gained a tremendous boost in smarts they also picked up a rather unintended, shocking side effect. They glowed green.
