STORY

You should know that this is a tribute pet.

I claw on the walls of the cardboard box but nothing happens. Ugh, it's so crowded in here with all my sisters and brothers! I wish someone would pick me to take home. Yesterday, my sister Nina got picked by the nicest looking couple. They held her so tight like she was the most important thing in the world! I want a family too…

This morning a little boy and his mommy passed by our box, I looked up at the boy and hoped he'd pick me but his mommy just hurried him along. I mewed after him asking him to come back, promising to be a good kitty if he picked me, but he never came back.

I wonder if anyone is interested in adopting a kitty like me. Suddenly, a mommy and her daughter come by. That girl looks nice, I thought, maybe she needs a kitty? ME, ME! Pick me! I'm a good kitty! I'll be nice and promise not to eat too much! Please pick me! I mewed at the girl. She bends down and holds me in her arms, I paw at her telling her what a good kitty I am and how I'd love to have a new family. The girl looks at her mom and asks if she could keep me. I look at Miss Mom too and mew, begging her to say yes. Please say yes Miss Mom I promise to be good…

"Alright you win my dear, you can have the kitten," Miss Mom finally says. YES! Lucky!!!! I get a new family, new home and lots of food! Go me!!! Ok maybe not lots of food since I promised not to eat much but still if they offered it would be rude to say no, right?!

When we finally reach my new home I get a bit scared. This house is so big compared to the cardboard box. What would happen if I got lost? Eek!! No, no I don't want to get lost! I find a little place between the chairs that's perfect for hiding and decide to stay there so it'll be easy for everyone to find me.

"Who are you?" I hear someone hiss at me. It is an older cat, my girl calls her Nietzsche. I stand up straight and formally say hello to my new big sister. "Hello! Miss Mom and Miss Girl adopted me today. I'm very happy to meet you, Sister Nietzsche." I am really happy to find an older sister in my new home. I never had one before!

Nietzsche scowls at me and, without replying, turns away to sit on my girl's lap. Did I say something to upset her?

Having a new house and family takes some getting used to I'll admit, but it is worth the effort. My Girl –I call her Mama now- gave me the name Khajiit. She even showed me a picture of this Khajiit thing, a cat warrior that is fast and agile just like me! I'm not really a warrior because I prefer hugs and cuddles to fighting, but still I like my new name.

The one thing that really saddens me is Big Sister Nietzsche. I've been here for almost two weeks and she still refuses to talk to me. This afternoon, when Mama came back from her classes I ran into her arms like always, she gave this strange toy that has a bell inside. I tried to figure out how it works but I just didn't get the thing. Then I got a brilliant idea!

I take the toy to Sister Nietzsche and give it to her. She looks at the toy quizzingly and asks me why I would give her such an expensive toy. I was so happy that big sister was finally talking to me I just couldn't help myself. "Because, I love you Big Sister!" I tell her, wagging my tail, "You can have all the expensive toys, I don't want them. I'll play with the crumbled paper balls you don't like." I push the toy closer to Big Sister full of hope.

Big Sister stares at me for a bit and then with a little sigh says, "Fine, do as you like." I am so happy she that accepted my gift that I snuggle next to her and we both sleep together on her pillow. For the first time since I arrived, I finally feel like I've found my home.
