Courtly intrigue notes: House Nocturne is currently in a bad place, politically. The former King Lorcan was a power-hungry lunatic who terrorized his subjects and family, threatened war with other Houses, and cursed his own children in a wayward bid for power. He was less-than-affectionately known as "the ravin' king" (in whispers, and certainly never in his presence) as his sanity deteriorated. Some speculate he was tampering with iron to use against his enemies, or some manner of vile magic that twisted his mind - either way, Lorcan was a paranoid and violent man until the day he died

The King was found propped on his throne, his heart ripped from his chest. The blood streaked across the Great Hall suggested a long and violent struggle, and that Lorcan, for all his madness, had not gone quietly.

Not a soul was sad to see him dead, but ugly rumors reared their heads soon after that the King's only remaining son had murdered him for the throne. Most wrote this off as foolishness, however - the King of the Air fae was ancient and incredibly powerful, and the prince... well, he was a bard. And more than that, Dorian always been obedient to his father's will and never showed signs of malice or ambition.

Then again, there were the rumors of a tryst with a certain wrathful beast, and the curse that consumed the House of Nocturne was nothing to laugh at, either...
