Aqualite the Glowing Gem Crabug

Have you ever wondered why dragons are obsessed with gold? It is almost like they are drawn to it and become like one possessed by the glistening treasure. It wasn’t always this way, however. There was a time when dragons were just about as normal as you and I; not driven by a need to hide themselves in gold and gems. Back then, they were referred to as Serpenths. They were as innocent as children with hearts of gold (not literal gold, this is just a figure of speech here) and carefree minds. I shall tell you a story of the Serpenth—the one that changed everything.A young Serpenth named Morganite lived in a deep valley with a beautiful three-streamed waterfall. She loved to play tag and race with her friends, zipping and zooming around the trees and along the river that went through the valley. She was perhaps the most happy-go-lucky and carefree Serpenth in the valley.

But she soon found something that changed her life--no, the lives of all Serpenths--forever.She was taking a leisurely stroll through the forest on the outskirts of the deep valley. The smells and sights of the forest in the morning always refreshed her more than sleep did. Something about the way the morning light caught in the leaves and gave off a certain ambience that energized her and filled her with joy. But this time, the morning stroll was different. This time, she heard a strange noise that she'd never heard before. Intrigued and ever curious, she followed this peculiar sound. It led her off the beaten path, into the forest, and in front of a peculiar cave with a faint glow inside. Fascinated by the glow, she felt compelled to enter the cave to find out the source of this strange pink glow. She got to the back of the cave and found the source of the glow--a heart-cut tourmaline. It was too beautiful to leave behind in this drab old cave, it felt such a shame. She decided to take it. Besides, it was just an innocent gem.

Morganite kept the gem hidden from her friends and family. She kept it hidden in a secret place and brought it out only at night to stare at and to caress. It's unworldly glow comforted her. After weeks of keeping the gem hidden from the world, an unexpected visitor came into her room one night while she was absorbed into her beautiful gem. A Crabug named Aqualite, who quickly became her friend for he was as shiny as the tourmaline she held close to her. Aqualite became her new---and only---friend. Yes, Morganite even forsook her friends for the simple little gem and her new crystal bug friend. Everyone started to notice Morganite's recent and disturbing change in behavior. She was the most active Serpenth in the valley and now here she was, hiding in her bedroom all day.

Everyone around her became suspicious and soon found out why she'd been hiding. Once they took one look at the heart-cut tourmaline, they too became hungry for it. Aqualite told Morganite that if she wanted to keep the gem to herself, she had to run away from home. And run away she did. She left behind all her friends and family. She left her innocent childhood behind for the sake of this little pink tourmaline. She both hated it and loved it. She eventually came to a cave in the northern mountainous part of the valley. She quickly went deep into the cave to escape all those she used to call friends. When she arrived in the very back of the cave, she saw a mass of gold and gems. Suddenly all her sadness was forgotten and she dove right into the sea of gold. She buried herself in it and felt safe and happy. She never wanted to leave the cave or her gold, ever.

Sadly, the greed for the cursed heart-cut tourmaline spread to the other Serpenths, turning them into lust-filled beasts, ever searching for gold to fill the now empty space in their hearts that the cursed gem had caused. No longer do they trust, no longer are they happy, no longer are they innocent. Their hearts have turned as cold as the gold they lust for.

Whatever you lust for, that is what you eventually become.

When everything, everything, everything you touch turns to gold, gold, gold.
