Trichotillomania is one of a few BFRBs, meaning Body-Focused Repetitive Behavior. Those with Trichotillomania often feel a need to pull out their hair. While the most common places to pull from are the scalp, eyebrows, or eyelashes, pulling can occur from any place that hair grows on the body. While pulling can be intentional, it is also often done subconsciously or as a response to anxiety, so one can't just "stop pulling" on command like others often expect them to. Pulling can be very stressful despite feeling cathartic, and those who have it often begin to wear hats, hoods, or wigs to hide their heads, worried that others will be able to see their bald spots. It can bring a lot of shame to people, and sometimes cause them to avoid going outside or seeing people because they're afraid they'll be judged for their bald spots or pulling.
