Feb 5th - Birthday. Dad brought a small cake from the shop, and mom took over all my chores. I thanked them both politely and opened the small gift - a silver necklace with a blue heart pendant. It's lovely, but I'm not putting it on as I have to go to work later on. Birthdays lost their meaning around 18 for me, but I still appreciate the thought from both.

Mar 11th - One of our neighbors approached me in the store today, asking me for a favor. "This was Amanda's! She wore it all the time! Please, you have to let me speak to her! Please!" Everybody in the store stared at us. I tried quietly explaining to him that it doesn't work that way, it doesn't work at all for me. I don't even feel guilty for lying, not anymore. But he kept insisting, shouting, pleading, angry one moment and sad the next. I felt cornered by all the looks and whispers, like a mouse surrounded by cats. I had no other choice but to walk him outside, to the nearby empty street. He stared so intently as I took off the glove and let the small wedding ring slip from his hand into my palm. It was hot to the touch even before it grazed my skin. It... was not a nice memory, and I will not write about it as I'm trying to forget the noise. The immense pain. The burning.
The scent.
Mar 15th - It isn't the town's fault, it's the people that are making me uneasy. Yet she still doesn't understand. For her, it's all about money. Perhaps back then it wasn't, but now it is. Hard to believe how much she's changed. How jealous she could become. Sometimes Dad still holding onto her seems like a miracle.
April 23rd - So she left you a flower, a red lily. I guess you really liked red lilies, not white ones, although I never heard about it from you, nor her. Maybe all these years, she just didn't want to be discovered... But, I'm relieved to know Mother still cares about you. Dad was right, I was wrong to think her heart disappeared completely. You are still dearly missed, Grandma.
I bought a cake. It's for us all. And later on, I'll sit down with her... It's been a long time coming.
