My name is Marie Curie, and I am a queen. I was abandoned by my former peasants to the place they called the 'shelter.' I would barely call it a form of shelter at all. The conditions were deplorable for someone of royalty such as myself. My health declined after they stole my ability to continue my line with princes and princesses. After my recovery, they placed me in the 'play room,' as they called it, surrounded by lesser felines. I settled on a cushion and observed the room as the peasants walked through.

Even as deplorable as the conditions were, I would not leave the shelter with just any new peasants. They had to be perfect. I would not be so rudely banished from another castle. I noticed a female peasant in tears who piqued my interest. Peasant tears sometimes brought me joy, and she cried beautifully. After several others passed through, all varying degrees of inadequate, she was joined by another who I was immediately drawn to. I hopped down and scaled the new peasant, to rest on his shoulder. I found it acceptable. Yes, these peasants would do just fine.

We left the play room, and they finalized my exit from the shelter. I was eager to see my new castle. After we arrived, I found that I wasn’t disappointed. It was spacious, full of trinkets and baubles suited to the taste of a queen. However, I also discovered the castle had another feline inhabitant. They called him 'Teddy.' I quickly learned he was a lesser feline. He was definitely not a king. I appointed him court jester and began using him for my amusement. He tips over so easily and makes the most satisfying indignant sounds.

More felines joined my royal court over time -- a pair of old fools and an insolent child who incessantly demands my attention. I have found my suitable king in the male peasant, who proved to be not much of a peasant at all. The female peasant, though, must often be put in her place with a sharp nip. I still contemplate how to inconspicuously remove her from the castle permanently, as to not alarm the male who seems to be rather enamored with her. The solution will come to me eventually.
