Prince Leo's father died, so he's supposed to be king! Except, he's too young, so his mother the Queen is regent. He's not shy about telling anyone who will listen that he'll be king someday, though. Perhaps that's why so many people have tried to kill and/or kidnap him. But that's okay! His trusty ~~babysitter~~ bodyguard always saves the day. Not that Leo will give him an easier time for it, though.

Balthazar was a loyal follower of Prince Leo's father, and was instated as Leo's bodyguard by the King himself prior to his passing. Given Bal's impressive track record in regards to saving the young prince's life, no one has felt the need to change this since.
Given the many threats on Prince Leo's life, Bal tends to serve more roles than just protection: he's also Leo's nanny, manservant, and disciplinarian. The only role he doesn't fill is tutor, because schooling bores him about as much as it bores Leo.

Leo is about a head and a half shorter than Balthazar
Leo loves to practice swordfighting, but no one will let him play with anything but a wooden toy sword until he's at least tweleve. This Displeases him, but everyone would rather put up with his tantrums than have him get hurt and the Queen find out.
