Story
He had been raised to be a prince, to have a stately air, to know the affairs of the state, but he had never been trained in matters of the heart. The knowledge he possessed was entirely to rule the state; economics and finance to figure out how to manage the treasuries, court manners to woo the ladies, arithmetic, the languages, Latin, Greek, he knew them all, the history of the different lands that were under his control and yet, all he wished for on a daily basis was to get away from it all.
He had very little control over his own life, indeed, his life had been managed for him since he was a young boy and that was all he had ever known. He had cooks to prepare his meals, a tutor to govern his education, and a valet to dress him, but still, he wished for a much simpler life, one where he could choose where he wished to go, could choose whom he wished to marry, but those were dreams, silly dreams only. He was expected, as his parents told him repeatedly to cease such silly childhood fantasies once he became an adult, and yet even as an adult they persisted to haunt him, showing him a life that seemed to his mind, so much better than his own.
As an adult, however, he was willing to argue and rebel against his parents wishes and how he met his future wife was one such act of rebellion. The kingdom had arranged for a grand ball, a gesture of concession by his parents to allow him to marry whomever he chose. The person whom he wished to marry had to be within that ball though, or else, as they so eloquently stated, he was to marry someone of their own choosing. The ball was to have all the eligible ladies of society of attendance, anyone who was of marriageable age and had enough status to get in. Yet, upon meeting these ladies he realized that they were all very much the same. The same blank stares, the same shrill giggle, one after another until they all seemed to blur into one and then she emerged.
She was beautiful, a figure in white, more breathtaking and more lovely than any other woman in the ball that night and she walked down the grand staircase, he vowed that by the end of the night she would be his.
