Even if you told me, 'this is the limit,' I wouldn’t dream of retreating.
I’m throwing away all my pessimism!â€
Renko Usami is nothing more than what you would expect of a college kid. She is a student, a physicist, a club co-president; and in this world, she has no potential.
All she has to do is look up at the night sky, and she can instantly know where and when she is. However, that talent serves no purpose when a watch with a GPS can do the same thing. The rest of the world is just like that; there's nothing to discover anymore, as humans have reached their pinnacle. Hey, thanks to advances in medicine, she'll live longer than ever in such a boxed-off world.
But human instinct is to push the limits, and Renko is no exception to that, even if it means she has to push at the boundaries of reality itself. Though she calls herself a scientist, she is one who has abandoned the exhausted possibilities of her field and turned her attention to supernatural phenomenon.
Most people don't take it seriously, but remember, light used to be a gift from the gods until we picked it apart. Now it's the colors of the rainbow - wait, is that really less impressive?
Still, she isn't interested in what we already know. She's more interested in answering the unanswerable, and no matter what most people would say, she isn't in it alone. She has the Necromancy Club at her back (although, they aren't necromancers, just paranormal researchers, and it's just one other person.) In that club with her is Maribel Hearn, the only one with an individual talent that might be able to achieve anything. They aren't very compatible, the wandering psychologist and the stern physicist. However, friendship has a way of “occurring†when you face a dream together.
In reality, Renko is holding onto Maribel because the girl is fascinating, deserving of study. She reports being able to see the boundaries in world. There are gaps in reality itself, and Renko is friends with the one who can cross them – so maybe they can have more, after all?
In dreams, when Maribel takes her, they are explorers together. It's what only children can imagine. But for Renko, it's too much like a figment of her imagination. Her human mind refuses to accept her experiences, and writes it off as an ordinary dream whenever she crosses a boundary she shouldn't. The limit that really binds her is just common sense.
Even if you told me “It’s perfect,†everything feels wrong
I’m throwing away my preconceptions! !â€
