Cent was the best present Jacob had ever been given. He remembered it well, his 7th birthday. Probably the best birthday he had ever had. Cent was not just a mechanical novelty, he was to become a prized possession and an heirloom. Jacob made sure to look after Cent as best he could. Although the years have gone by, Cent is in pretty good nick.

He still functions exactly as was intended - you insert a coin into the slots on his chest and he would perform a set of random activities. Sometimes he would lift a paw, sometimes his head would move from left to right. Jacob's favourite was when Cent's tail would wag, as if he was genuinely happy to have been fed a coin.

Now Jacob was 27 years old, and his son Andrew was almost two. Jacob knew that Cent would one day be just as precious and loved by Andrew as when Jacob was a small boy.
