Aloha! Kia Ora! I am Honu, a humble sea turtle.
Te Moana, the ocean, is my home. Oh, she has the most beautiful gardens! There, I find my favourite things to eat - delicious sea grass, algae, jellyfish and sponges. Although I would like her to be, Moana is not all my own, I share her with some of the strangest and most fascinating creatures. There's no doubt she is breathtaking, but she is also wild and unpredictable. At times, she's gripped by fierce swells, her power keeping us all on edge, fins and flippers alike.
Above her, the glorious golden shores glisten - where my journey began, where my siblings and I first felt the warmth of the earth's embrace. We were safe and warm for a brief time beneath the shifting earth. But when we heard Moana calling to us, we could not wait any longer. Into her arms we hurried. And from time to time, we return to those shores once again.
