Introduction

Long ago, Comrade was but a meager country boy. He aided his mother and father with the household chores like cooking, cleaning and caring for his younger siblings in addition to the farm work; milking cows, grooming horses, sheering sheep, reaping and sowing the fields when the seasons were right. He was a hard worker and loved the farm, but at heart Comrade was a warrior. He dreamed of one day becoming one of the elite knights in the King's Guard, but that was a position that could only be filled by a man of noble birth, and Comrade was not yet a man nor was he of noble birth. Comrade knew that becoming a man was only a matter of waiting a few years, but he knew that he could never change whom he had been born to. Although he loved him parents dearly, he couldn't help wishing that he had been born to someone different - anyone - as long as they had even the thinnest of blue blood running through their veins.

He practiced his swordsmanship and horseback riding and increased his strength and endurance in between and during chores. He challenged himself to run farther, faster and for longer; to leap greater distances and heights; to train every muscle in his body until he sweat blood. For Comrade believed that if he worked harder at becoming a knight than anyone before him, he could make up for his unfortunate lineage and enter knighthood.
