STORY DRAFT

In the heart of Finland, where the vast forests whispered ancient tales and the lakes shimmered like mirrors to the soul, there lived a boy named Pekka. His village was a place where the stories of the Kalevala were not just tales but a way of life. Among these stories, there was one concept that stood out to Pekka more than any other: sisu. Pekka's fascination with the Kalevala led him to dream of the magical Sampo, a mysterious artifact said to bring endless prosperity. But more than the Sampo, Pekka yearned to embody the spirit of sisu, to prove to himself and his village that he had the inner strength to overcome any challenge. With a heart full of determination, Pekka decided to embark on this quest. The journey was treacherous. He faced blizzards that seemed to pierce his very soul and vast chasms that threatened to swallow him whole. But with each challenge, Pekka dug deep, tapping into his inner reservoir of sisu.
(for the story: in his journey, he will go through a rite of passage in the face of adversity which will evenually help him understand how to harness the inner strength within).

INSPIRATIONS

Sisu
Sisu, is a Finnish term, which embodies resilience, determination, and an indomitable spirit. It's the inner strength that pushes one to persevere against all odds, to keep going when the path seems impossible. This is a concept which is really personally significant to me as I've had to go through some adversity in recent years, and I always try to remind myself to embrace my inner strength when things got tough. I've also been very fascinated by the Kalevala, the national epic of Finland and one of the most significant works of Finnish literature, which also embodies the spirit of sisu.

Kalevala
The Kalevala narrates a series of interconnected myths, legends, and folktales. It tells the stories of various heroes, including Väinämöinen (a wise old sage and central figure of the epic), Ilmarinen (a skilled blacksmith), and Lemminkäinen (a daring adventurer). The narrative covers their adventures, quests, and conflicts, most notably the pursuit of the magical artifact called the Sampo, which is believed to bring prosperity and is the source of many battles in the epic. The epic has inspired numerous artistic works, including music, paintings, and literature. Notably, the composer Jean Sibelius drew inspiration from the Kalevala for many of his compositions. Additionally, J.R.R. Tolkien, the author of "The Lord of the Rings," was influenced by the themes and motifs of the Kalevala. The Kalevala also embodies the Finnish concept of "sisu," which represents determination, resilience, and courage in the face of adversity.
