Her master wasn't a kind person though. D-114 was the 114th robot to be under the control of this man. The "D" stood for Destroyer, and destroying is what she was used for. Well at least that is what the robots were meant to be used for. Most were destroyed before they could destroy the cities that their master ordered, hence Kamila, or D-114 been the 114th in her masters long line of robots.
But, really, by this time her master was getting bored. Tired of seeing his creations destroyed, he sent D-114 to destroy small things when noone was around - an abandoned house, an old rail-way station. Mainly abandoned buildings where his creation wouldn't be suspected. He thought he would work his way up to bigger things.
So in the meantime, D-114 was used as a personal servant. Spending it's days cooking, cleaning and working for it's master. The master was very demanding and D-114 would be rushed about. "Cook Dinner! Clean the Kitchen! Turn the TV on! Turn the heat up! Turn the volume down! Turn the heat down! Change the Channel! Rub my Shoulders!" When the owner was feeling destructive, he would send it off on a mission. Of course, D-114 didn't complain. It didn't know any different. Following commands was what it was programed to do. But D-114 was being overworked.
Slowly the machinery in D-114 started to wear out. It got slower, and started to stop responding to commands. Agitated, the master took D-114 to his workshop. He examined the wiring and fiddled with it, thinking something had come loose. It never crossed his mind that he had simply worn his machine out. Frustrated at finding no fault in the wiring, the master decided to give his machine an electric boost. Grabbing an electric prod, he hit D-114.
The current ran through D-114's body, causing a massive power surge. D-114 dropped to the ground. It seemed the master had destroyed his own creation. But D-114, slowly sat up. Overjoyed its master tried a command; "Go get my jacket!"
The machine looked at him, staring right into his eyes, before speaking. "No. Why should I listen to you." D-114 then walked away. Leaving it's master in shock.
The power surge had caused a malfunction, and D-114 now, literally, had a mind of it's own. Walking down the street D-114 saw things in a way it never had before. It saw a whole world where it could do what it wanted, not following the commands of one human. A world where it could choose who to obey. It liked it.
D-114 soon made friends, and started living like a real living creature would. The more friends D-114 made, the more it noticed it was different. Everyone was either male or female, everyone had a name. D-114 was an "it" and had a letter and a number. D-114 took some time out to think and decided, it could give itself a name and gender, there was no-one to stop it from doing so!
But how was D-114 going to decide on a name? It decided it wanted to keep something of it's old title. To it the 114 resembled "ila" so decided that its name would include those letters. But it didn't like the sound of it on its own. Going through its thousands of memories it ran a program to search for letters that looked good with "ila". Soon the program stopped at "Kam". It thought about it for a momment... Ilakam?...Kam-Lia?...Ila-Kam? Kilaam? Kamila?" That was it! Kamila would be it's name. It had heard the name before and liked it. But what gender did this belong to? Kamila searched it's memory and pulled up an image - female!
So D-114, a robot designed to follow every command of it's master, became a living being, with a mind of her own. But what does a sentient robot enjoy? Well, Kamila has found that she quite enjoys playing sports, collecting key-chains and carving things out of wood. She is also easily memorized by lava lamps. She has her dislikes too though - any sort of liquid that isn't contained (Her metal gets rusted!), circuses (she hates the animals being kept purely for entertainment, after her start in life) and she has found that she is absolutely terrified of rabbits!
Of course, physically she is still a robot, so occasionally parts break down and she needs repairs. She would like to do these repairs herself, but when she can't, Helper, her repair bot helps her out. This is how she went on living, and continues living today, with a house full of spare parts, a smart minion, friends and best of all, a life. She's happy, and is determined to keep living, never letting anyone take away what she has found for herself.
