I've always been surrounded by those who believed in magic, the supernatural. My mother was involved in the Rosicrucian Order along with her mother and so on. My father was never able to accept my mother's beliefs and believed it to be Satanic so he left us when I was but a child.

I grew up with my gran and mom, two very strong, independent women who showed me never to be afraid to stand up for what I believe in. My grandmother taught me how to work the different ingredients the spells called for. She was the one the majority of the order would go to if they needed anything and so by the time I was old enough I began working under her in the shop.

I was allowed to deliver ingredients to the various members and made sure to keep the lines of communication open between them. That's how I meet Bo.

I got to know her 4 years before she lost her sight. Those few years we learned so much of each other, our likes, our dislikes, the little things that one notices when they truly love a person.

There are few things in my childhood that stood out, the majority of which dealt with my gran. Before my father left, mother had told me stories of how he avoided gran as much as he could, as though he were afraid of her. Gran you see had a gift, she was able to read people's fortunes, but they were not the pleasant types. For one thing, she'd give warnings to people who might simply come by, but the one thing that really frightened me before I understood it was when she spoke with no one in the room.

She'd always carry a rosary. No matter where she was, if it wasn't around her wrist or neck it would be in her purse or pocket anywhere she should put it along as it was on her person. There were times where she'd be sitting talking to mother and I and out of nowhere she'd say, ‘Oh so and so died just now,’ and I'd give a face of disbelief before getting the phone call that confirmed it.

What I failed to realize back then was how involved in the order she was, mother not far behind either. I always saw people of the order coming to see her, some would wait weeks, even months just to get a chance to sit and talk to her, but I didn't understand why. I mainly studied the spell books, the different herbs and medicines all the things that were in the shop to that I knew my way around, but mother said I had a real gift for it. She told me that I shared that gift with gran. Gran taught me to sharpen my gift and as I worked more and more beside her I was able to see a person and know just what they needed as they walked around the shop.

Doubt

Things began to change within the order, soon a group separated themselves from the teachings into a darker more sinister path. Gran would be called in more often then all her years of being involved, at first she thought nothing of it until she realized they'd become power hungry. Gran felt sure that we'd be in danger if we stayed any longer. It was around this time, when I'd just begun making delivery's that I started hanging out with Bo. I'd always find myself at her door every two weeks dropping off a special salve gran made for her mother, but I started smelling it on Mal the more I hung out with her.
