He hung between the veil between life and death. He was of neither, and of both.

He had been killed, all those years ago. But he hadn’t been willing to move on, he hadn’t been ready then. So instead of moving on, he now existed with the small few who were able to move back and forth.

However he’d soon realized there was little benefit to this- in existing in both realms he never really felt he belonged in either of them. He was only a shadow on both sides, he couldn’t communicate, or touch, or do anything of substance.

He was tired. It had been fun at first, scaring the living, since he was basically a ghost in the living realm- but the novelty had worn off. He wished that he could pass through to the veil and stay in the realm of death permanently- but it seemed that the decision he had made long ago, the decision to hang on- had stuck. There was no choice anymore.

He was only a shadow.
