Cystic fibrosis (CF)

Definition: CF is an incurable, genetically determined metabolic disease.
Cause: Genetic variance causes the mucus of patients to be very thick and viscous what especially leads to issues in the lungs, the intestines, the liver and pancreas. The lachrymal and perspiratory glands or the gonads are for example affected as well.
Symtoms:
Respiratory tract: high production of thick mucus, chronic cough, shortness of breath, nail clubbing, disposition to bronchitis and pneumonia
Digestive tract: digestive problems leading to underweight, ileus (bowel occlusion)
Perspiratory glands: very salty sweat
Pancreas: gray stool, Diabetes mellitus
Liver: hepatic cirrhosis, cholecystitis
