The small voice falters on the last word, then abruptly stops.

Cujo pads softly towards the iron terrier, his lips pulled back in a snarl. He is almost completely invisible in the darkened room, and only the ethereal dots of light in the center of his eyes can be seen in the gloom.

The terrier falls with a dull clunk. The name "TAD" is roughly inscribed onto the side of its metal body in jagged capitals. Cujo picks it up in his mouth and, almost wearily, begins to slink away.

"Monsters....! ....away.....!"

The feeble voice fades again. Cujo stops, looks back, and wags his tail like an excited puppy. He is confident it will not start again. There is only the rabbits and THE BOY now.

No more bats. No more pain. THE WOMAN will not return either, but he has kept THE BASEBALL BAT as a sullen reminder.
