Books can be best friends for a variety of reasons. Some people like them because books allow them to be someone they are not or do things they could never do. Others like them because they stretch the mind and allow them to stretch their mind beyond anything they could have imagined. Some people like books because they bring them comfort. They provide a shield to the outside world that seems to only want to cause them harm.
When he was in grade school, Tai used the books for a combination of reasons. They provided him with friendship,a source of knowledge, protection and an escape from the world. Honestly, the genius saw no point in even attempting to make friends. Most of the time, Tai could hardly talk above a whisper with out stuttering. When he did manage to find his voice, most seemed to just get a glazed look in their eyes. Once middle school came around, Tai just decided to take comfort in his books.
But then high school came by and he met the one who showed him how fun people could be, and that books were not lying when they said friends existed, true ones. The person also showed him just how dedicated a true friend could be.
Not that Tai would remember how Mikita, his future lover, saved and improved his life. He'd remember that Mikita was one of the first people to show an interest in him. He'd also remember that Mikita seemed to have focus a lot of time with him. He didn't remember the time which Mikita claimed his father told the two of them that it was ok for him to live with Mikita because he was going to be somewhere else.
But those are not things that Tai focuses on.
Most of the time, Tai is too exhausted from classes and participating in a band with Mikita and three others by the name of Judas, Himoru and Mei. When he is not doing that, he looks after the minions that he has managed to find and agree to take care of. Most of the time, they don't bother him.
