The Goddess
You wander through the desert of the Sacred Lands, swirling blue sand surrounding you. Suddenly, the sand turns to a rusty tan color the next step you take. What’s this? You must be at the edge of Saherimos, bordering an unknown desert. You get ready to turn back to the familiar comfort of the known land, when something in the distance catches your eye. It appears to be an oasis, with a pool of clear blue water and lush green ferns. In the center of the oasis, the sun gleams off a massive structure of black and gold. A temple? Is this a mirage? Your curiosity gets the better of you and you decide to trudge through this mysterious desert to get a closer look.
You finally reach the oasis. You are so thirsty by the time you get there; you decide to take drink from that water, which looks refreshing. As you are doing so, you feel a pair of eyes on you. You look up to see what looks to be a small Sphynx cat, her skin patterned with even more eyes. She stares at you, seemingly into your soul. She then turns and trots into the peculiar sanctuary which rises before you.
Feeling an overwhelming need to follow the little feline, you slowly walk up to the building. It looks somehow ancient and modern at the same time, with towering pillars of obsidian carved with strange golden symbols. You step into the shrine and your eyes fall upon a shadowy figure seated on a gilded throne.
“Are you lost, child?” a low, smoky voice calls out from the darkness. “Or are you here to make an offering?” The figure leans forward with a grin of sharp pointed teeth. You see now that this creature is a Darkonite, though unlike any you have seen before. She is a jet-black nightmare, with accents of gold adorning her. On her forehead lies an archaic symbol and a shining mist surrounds her. She assesses you with piercing white eyes. The sphynx from earlier sits by the throne, also staring at you.
Leaping down from her spot, the Darkonite’s cloven hooves clack on the stone floor. She stretches her paws, extending gleaming golden claws. Looking up at you, she hisses “Well, what is it? Why have you come to the Temple of Nekhtet?”
You can sense you don’t want to upset this creature, and that she could be dangerous. You answer honestly that you were wandering in the desert and just happened to come upon this place. It’s quite impressive, you add.
“Ahh so you are lost!” the figure states. She leaps back unto her throne. “Well lucky for you, you might have just happened upon the best thing that ever happened to you. Maybe,” she says with a wink.
“My name is Nekhtet. Do you know what that means? I suppose not, since it’s from an old language from a different land, where my spirit is originally from. It means Victory. I am a goddess of victory. I have chosen to incarnate here in Subeta as this wonderfully odd creature for now. You know, we have quiet a few unique creatures where I’m from as well.”
“Anyways, what does it mean to be a goddess of victory? Well let me tell you. I can help you be victorious over any challenges in your life. I can help you win battles over your enemies as well as personal, inner battles. Of course, all that comes for a price. I can be your dream and your adversary’s nightmare. But what have you got to offer me? That is the important question.”
This sounds too good to be true. But you do have a problem that you need help with…maybe it is fate that you stumbled upon this strange deity. You dig through the bag that you’re carrying and come up with a bottle of water and a protein bar. You hesitantly offer this up to Nekhtet, hoping it is enough.
“Ah yes, that will do!” the Darkonite exclaims with a laugh, scooping up the goods. “To be honest, I appreciate any offering I get these days. Now how can I help you, dear one?” You go on to explain your issue, as she patiently listens. She beckons you to come closer to her and lays her paws on your hands. The symbol on her head, an ankh of life, glows. “You have my blessing. Go forward and be victorious!” You bow before Nekhtet and thank her greatly. “Now let’s get you back to where you really belong” she says, and a golden haze surrounds you. You find yourself transported back to where you were originally headed in the Sacred Lands.
A few days later, you find the problem you had has resolved. Smiling to yourself you think “NEKHTET! Praise Nekhtet."
