Ever since Elaika discovered her fascination of brightly colored edible delights, she just couldn't help herself every time she passed a candy store or an ice cream shop. Anything that had bright colors stopped her cold in her tracks, and she would simply have to stare, her lips being licked.
Her entire little body was made up of rainbows from the inside out, one would think. Her fur was brightly lit with color, everything she even owned was a mess of colors. Reds, blues, greens, purples, oranges, yellows, pinks, she lived and breathed every color of the rainbow. When she wasn't eating delectable, colorful creations she was dreaming of them - painting them - or rambling on and on and on about them!
Elaika's tiny nose was poked over a clear glass display case, her pupils bouncing up and down as they followed the shaking of a cup full of multi-colored sprinkles. They started spilling off from the triple-scooped ice cream she had just ordered moments before while her face was pressed to the case, gazing over all the different flavors and colors - of course she chose rainbow sherbert.
The man behind the counter was eyeing her with an eyebrow raised, waiting for her order - for he had asked her to say "stop" when she felt there were enough of the brightly colored sprinkles. The cup was nearly empty, and every inch of her ice cream was covered with the deliciously colored sprinkles before she squealed "OK! Thanks!" bouncing up and down on her heals.
The man chuckled as he shook his head, handing the cone to her (which also happened to be chocolate-dipped and covered in rainbow sprinkles, might I add). She licked her lips as her eyes grew, marveling at all the colors before she slurped up her first bit. "Mmmm!" She giggled to herself, turning on her heal and skipping out of the ice cream shop, the brightly colored sprinkles that had topped her ice cream now all over her face...
You see, ever since her mom mistakenly put rainbow soup in her bottle instead of milk, Elaika has been addicted to all kinds of rainbow foods and drinks. Her mother never had the heart to refuse her anything, though seeing her child jump around in a constant sugar rush surely made her doubt her decision quite often! But rainbow is what made her happy, and her mother wanted nothing more but to see her darling child happy...
Elaika was hopping from one side of the sidewalk to the other, as her form of "getting places". She never did the normal ... walking thing. She was far too hyper and sugar-ridden for that. She was humming and licking a multi-colored lollipop that her grandfather had just given her, passing stores quite quickly as she hopped about.
Suddenly, she froze during a mid-hop, and simply plopped right down to the sidewalk. She turned slowly and looked to a store-front, and was speechless at what she saw. It was the new candy store the town had gotten - and it had just opened. It was decorated from head to toe with every candy you can imagine - in every color too of course. Lollipops, candy buttons, licorice, sour straws, chocolates, caramels, peanuts, candy bars, barrels and barrels of candy were nearly overflowing - some seemed to have all ready done such a thing for candy was sprawled all over the floors as well!
Elaika finally gasped as she stepped inside the store, the aroma of these colorful delights wisping up around her nose as she breathed deeply. The side of her mouth began to twitch as her eyes grew, looking from barrel to barrel, from wall to wall at all the delectable candy. She had even dropped her own lollipop upon the floor, for these lollipops and candy were just so much more....colorful.
Her small, twitchy hand (probably from sugar nerves) began to reach into the barrels, digging up handfuls upon handfuls of colorful wrappings and colorful concoctions. She pressed them to her face and smiled wildly, as if she were hugging the colorful candy to her very soul. She then stood tall and took a diving pose, her hands clasped together over her head. Was she ... about to dive into the candy barrel!?
"Oh no you don't!" A voice came from behind her as Elaika was suddenly and abruptly scooped up from the candy barrel. "I knew I shouldn't have let you hop down this sidewalk by yourself! I just knew you'd see this store!" Her mother shook her head and sighed as she tucked Elaika under her arm (who was squealing, whining and grabbing wildly for the candy), turning to walk out.
"Oh Elaika, if only I had never given you that rainbow soup ..."
