It was said that dragons were creatures of fate. They knew more then any of the other mortal races that life was an eternal dance of destiny and fortune. And every dragon knew that out there, somewhere, waiting for them, lay his or her Luck. Very few outsiders truly understood the concept, but dragons seemed obsessed with it. It was the one item that would bring them more happiness and joy then anything else, the one item that they would give up their whole treasure hoard to find, and guard as their most precious possession for the rest of their lives once it was found. It could be anything, a piece of jewelry, furniture, even buttons and pieces of strings. No dragon knew what their Luck was going to be, but, once they found it, they recognized it instantly.

The Queen of Dragons was no exception. A young earth dragoness named Ravel, she, like all dragons, searched far and wide for her Luck. But, oddly enough, when she found it, it was not a matter of what it was, but who. A mortal, of all things! The apprentice of the local alchemist of a small town and, unknown to him, fate had decreed that he was the Queen of Dragon's Luck.

This was extremely unusual, Luck usually wasn't a living being, especially a mortal. The Queen decided to handle this carefully. She couldn't just swoop in and carry him off as a prisoner. Even an inanimate Luck could reject the dragon if it was acquired by theft or mistreated, a catastrophe she wanted to avoid at any cost. She needed him to become hers by choice. Thus she decided to take on the form of a mortal herself and befriend him first. She planned to slowly introduce him to the world of dragons as a friend first, before finally informing him of his fate and role as the Luck of the Dragon Queen.

It was tricky at first. It was hard hiding all of her dragon powers, and she was used to life as a dragon royal, and had little knowledge of mortal commoners' customs and manners. He was understandably taken aback and a little nervous about this odd, playful whirlwind that suddenly blew into his life, one that seemed totally unconcerned about the normal worries of mortal life. But, slowly and surely, as time passed and through all the adventures that seemed to follow her, he grew more at ease with her, and she found herself with a very odd situation for a dragon. The way he looked at her, the thrill she felt when he touched her hand, this was not the mere friendship she had been striving for. Could it possibly be...

Obviously she is capable of shapeshifting. She can change into other creatures as well, not just mortals.

Ravel has a fondness for food, and will eat anything and everything, including certain insects, especially coated in honey or roasted. And Italian food. She discovered that one day in a port town, and now will travel great lengths for pasta.

She is terrified of spiders, and has an extreme dislike of horses. One of her best friends is a centaur, and horses just look too unnatural to her.

Ravel was actually my original username on this site, and once in a while I'll still go by that name. I came across it by naming a Final Fantasy Selkie Ra'Vel, and have been fond of it ever since.
