People always say shit, like, how immortality would be an amazing thing to have. How they'd have all the time in the world to amass a fortune, travel the world, learn whatever you want, to basically rule the world. To, like, want for nothing or whatever.

No one ever talks about how if you're born poor and hungry, and when you died—or were turned, as some might say—then you're still poor and hungry. Just a different type of hungry and a more difficult brand of poor. Feeding recklessly gets you hunted down to be thrown in the sun, and the amount of overnight employment is slim pickings.

How is someone supposed to want for nothing if all they have is nothing?

So there's only struggling, only being so hungry that vermin start looking delicious, and contemplating how painful death by sunlight would actually be. At least until you accept that rules weren't made for your kind and do they really apply to you still? As long as you're furtive, as long as you focus on your survival over theirs, if you take what you need when you need it, maybe one day it'll be something other than just survival.

(What it must be like, to feel anything but bone deep fear towards the idea of having hope for something better. Something that doesn't rip you apart, leave you gasping and bleeding out like flesh caught in barbed wire.)
