About Me

People say it isn't easy being green, but used to think I had it much worse. On my first day of kindergarten, I could hear Billy, a Dark Matter Montre, laughing at me. His whispers carried throughout the class and soon everyone was sniggering under their breath. I'd have turned pink if it weren't already so. Clutching my book bag closer to my chest, I hurried to my seat and put my head down, trying to block out the whispers. It didn't work. "He looks like a GIRL" one boy said behind me. "I'd get my owner to give me a potion if I were him". "Sweetheart? Who paints a boy sweetheart!" said a girl three rows over. The whispers quickly stopped when our teacher walked into the room. Miss. Honey was perfect. Her hair flowed gently to her shoulders in perfect chestnut ringlets. Her bangs were held back neatly with a pink bow. Even Billy listened when she talked, a musical, soft tone which encapsulated and enchanted her audience.
She read out the attendance list carefully, making sure to study each of her pupils faces before moving on to the next name. "Hugga-Bear?" She called quietly and I hesitantly put my paw up. More giggles. "Did you know that pink is my favourite colour?" She asked, peering over her glasses with clear azure eyes. The giggles ceased. Miss. Honey moved on to the next name, a quiet Pherret who was sitting beside me.
"I like pink too", the Pherret muttered. She didn't make eye contact.
I tried to convey as much gratitude as I could with a sincere and heartfelt "thank you". She just blushed.
I quickly rummaged around in my pencil case and wrote in big sloppy block letters 'I'm Hugga-Bear. You can call me Bear.' I pushed the note over to my right. Her eyes widened at the note and she hesitated before taking a pencil and responding. 'My name is FlowerChild, but I go by Flower for short.' Her writing was perfect. It was neat and she could even do a few of those loopy letters that we were supposed to learn later on in school. I picked my crayon back up to respond.

Flower became my best friend in the whole world. Some of the other kids made fun of her as well, because she was just a Common Pherret, but I didn't care. Her owner was saving for a Glade Potion so that one day her fur might live up to her name.
