Saren was born in 2139 and is the longest serving turian member of the Spectres; elite operatives answering directly to the Citadel Council. He's been an agent of the Council's will and zealous defender of galactic stability for 24 years.

Official records of Spectres are sealed, but it's known that Saren followed turian tradition and joined the military at age 15. He was promoted to active service after only a year of training, though it is unknown whether or not his unit was involved in any of the battles against human forces during the First Contact War of 2157. Saren became the youngest turian to be accepted into the Spectres in 2159. Being intelligent, cunning, and capable, he quickly developed a reputation for ruthless efficiency. Although rumors began to spread of the brutality of his methods, there was no denying the results he produced.

Saren is an outspoken opponent of human expansion. He doesn't think that humans should be as dominant as they try to be, and that their current standing, above other races of the Citadel that have been there longer, is outrageous. It is speculated that his particular hatred for humans came from the First Contact War, when turians attacked Shanxi in 2165. Saren lost a brother in that war, and has since disliked humanity.

Saren has little regard for life and does not see saving lives as a priority unless the Council deems it necessary or there is information to be gathered. Despite his records, he remains the Council's top agent. His two principles he follows are: "Never kill anyone without a good reason," and "You can always find a reason to kill someone."

I have many regrets about my former life. Everybody makes mistakes, some more than others, but some of us can't help our mistakes. Some of us are being dragged in the wrong direction unknowingly, The phrase, "We're only human" comes to mind, despite my lack of humanity, both with looks and... personality.
My remains were disintegrated after Sovereign failed to make use of my corpse and kill Shepard. However, Sovereign gave a last-ditch effort to make use of me, and I found myself on the Citadel. But... it wasn't the same time. No. It was some time in the future. My only guess was that the process that Sovereign used took a turn for the slow side, and was delayed since Sovereign was destroyed. The good thing about coming back this late is, everyone thinks I'm dead. Now that my head is clear and I am no longer indoctrinated... I realize how much of an idiot I was. How brutal, how terrifying I was. I cost the lives of many; not just humans, either. As I looked down at my 'regenerated' body, I didn't know what to do, or where to go. I literally had nothing to help me out now. And with my appearance, well... nobody would want to come anywhere near me.

If anyone catches wind that I'm still around, if someone recognizes my name, my looks, even my voice, I have no doubt I will be hunted down again. Only this time, I won't have the resources to keep myself a step ahead. The policy would be to shoot first, ask questions later. Actually, "kill on sight" would be more accurate. I was just a small step, I realize, in the war, but I helped to kickstart things, and the chaos that followed, I am to blame. I didn't know how to go about rebuilding credibility. How to go about making a new identity. The Citadel had been rebuilt, but I had no doubt the scanners would still somehow pick up who I was. I needed to find some way to alter my biology... and uh, make myself actually look less of a husk-like turian.

I know it will only be a matter of time before someone else rises up to take Commander Shepard's place. Her sacrifice, as I learned, saved the galaxy from being wiped out by the Reapers. She was declared KIA, but something at the back of my mind told me she was still alive somehow, somewhere. If I could perhaps find her, or someone with as much determination and ambition as her, I may be able to redeem myself.
I spent my first few months in the lower levels of the Citadel, where the poorer people hung about. My inorganic body parts sustained me, for the most part, but it didn't hurt to get sustenance every now and then. I eventually found a sort of underground fighting ring that C-Sec turned a blind eye towards, and I began participating. That's how I started getting my money, and how I got a job offer to be a gun-for-hire. I declined at first, and when questioned about my decision, I said I needed to get some... physical changes first. My employer offered to pay for everything. They were to be starting a highly illegal operation soon, and they saw potential in me. My biotics and my non-organic body parts seemed to intrigue them as much as it did me at first. They arranged for a doctor that specialized in biological reconstruction to come to the Citadel and do some work on me; just enough to make me get by, for now. Of course, we decided to keep my non-organic parts... because why the hell not?

I managed to slip by C-Sec with no red flags going up. I would blame that on their lack of working technology, however. In a decade or so, I may not be able to pass through freely like I was now. I got ideas after doing some research on specialized turian armor. Garrus Vakarian, that sly Turian... when he holed up on Omega, he went by Archangel. Nobody saw his face. He was a masked vigilante. I wasn't entirely sure I'd be a vigilante, but that gave me ideas. I was indebted to my employer for at least a few years, to pay off the debt I earned for the partial reconstruction.
My current look was... odd. Not like your ordinary turian. My coloring was different; black, light grey-white, and light blue. The crest on my head wasn't completely there, and reminded me of a balding human. Where I had non-organic parts, out of the synthetic skin that was there, crystal-like objects began forming. I couldn't explain it. There was no doubt; the old me, appearance-wise, was gone.

As the years passed, I came to realize that the galaxy was no better off than it had been when I first came back. With all the mass relays destroyed and a lack of know-how on how to re-create them, things took a very, very long time to get from one place to another. Piracy became rampant. Crime increased tenfold. I decided that I would have to be some sort of vigilante to help get things under control, to help try and make up a little for all the hell I caused before. I didn't intend for what happened to happen, but there was no way I could go back and change things. I couldn't sit around and mope about it, either. As soon as my debt was cleared, I gave my employer a notice that I'd be leaving his service in a few months, trying to give him the benefit of a doubt and to find someone to replace me instead of just up and leaving with no warning. I didn't want to get into old habits, or start new bad ones.

My employer did manage to find a mercenary group for hire to replace me. Thankfully, there were no hard feelings, and he thanked me for giving him time to find replacements. I went back to the Citadel and began searching for Black Market dealers. Over the years, I'd picked up a few tips and learned a few things and got to know a few faces. Someone I was somewhat acquainted with hooked me up with an armor dealer, who got in touch with a custom armor maker. Within a few months, I had some custom armor made for me. As much as I thought I was safe, it would still benefit if people didn't see my face. I didn't want people to be poking around, recognizing who I was now, and then possibly putting the pieces together and finding out that I am Saren Arterius.

No. The days of being Saren Arterius are over. It's not exactly a genius name, but for people I do not know, I go by Neras. Only those in the Black Market business know my real first name. But none have had the wits to figure out who I was prior. Now that I had become a vigilante, there was only one thing I focused on; piracy. In order for things to start sustaining themselves again, goods needed to get from one place to another without being late or stolen. Then, there were those usual thugs out to rob everybody. The Black Market dealers, I didn't have a problem with. I tried to stay away from their areas of... dealing... as much as possible.

I think it's safe to say that I was rebuilt and renewed, like an old toy being reset.
Damn, it's good to have a clear head.

WREX

I can only imagine how nice it would have been to have you as an ally.

Hanar

Is this some kind of prank? Did I miss something, or...?

RIAN

I've not heard of you before. I'll keep an eye out if you ever come to the Citadel... I wouldn't mind maybe buying us some drinks and learning some more about you.

N7

The legend herself. I've not met you in person, but... I have heard stories from older Spectres.

GARRUS

You did it. You helped save the entire universe. You were part of an odd crew that overcame many uncertainties and hardships and made us proud.

VARREN

You're... not what I expected out of a varren. But I guess there are always the outliers and unique ones to every species.

PROTHEAN

Ah, so you're in hiding, too? I can see why you're mad at the universe. Perhaps I can help ease your frustration with a drink or some skeet shooting? Perhaps some hand-to-hand combat?
