Boju flitted down to the glade, his keen eye ever observant even in the twilight hours. He sought her, the gentle maiden of the fountain, and found her peacefully among her lilies. She stretched out her shapely brown hand and he perched there, contentedly.

"Greetings, little one," sang her dulcet voice, a pleased smile on her lips. Boju fluffed up, pleased himself to be spoken to. "Shall we fly again this night?"

In answer, the little snoburo hooted in excitement, spread his wings and fluttered around her once, twice. He then landed again on her outstretched hand, pleading her with the tilt of his head.

She laughed, a tinkling sound much like the pleasant splash of the water from the fountain."Yes, it is nearly time. We shall go south this night, for I hear that is where..."she broke off with a smile, a dreamy mist over her dark, somber eyes. When she resumed her voice had lowered even further. "Then let us prepare."

The maiden settled Boju upon the curb of the pond, and then stood, allowing her drape to fall from her voluptuous body. In the twilight hours, when the setting sun painted the sky in all the shades of passion, she stood there, naked, raising her arms to the sky, her head tilted back and eyes softly closed. Her form shimmered, flickered, and faded while another form emerged. This one smaller, feathered, a friend of the night. She finished her transformation just as the last vestiges of day left it`s streak upon the earth.

The two took flight, soaring through the air. The female was larger, stronger, faster, yet compassionate enough to pace her wing beats for the smaller. They were embraced by the coolness of the night as they sped south; south toward the army encampment, south where a simple soldier, poor and humble, dreamed of an unattainable princess who lingered by a fountain.
