Those were my favorite moments, when the night came fully and the fire warmed my fur with it's magic. The stars, how they would glow, how they would shine. So far out, away from the world of human-dominated scents and the cacophony of sounds so loud at times it made my ears ring, there was no competition for our eyes. The dull, discolored glow of the human lights no longer faded the skies for us, and we could see the magic above in its full glory.

These were my favorite moments. Just my human and I. They smelled like happiness, they felt like peace. The sweat and dirt caked on our paws, the burrs they absent-mindedly picked from my fur as they stroked my head contentedly. We ate the best foods then, hot and juicy and singed lightly so I could taste the fire's burn.

These were my favorite moments. They would tell me stories about the stars above. Their voice full of wonder. I never knew many of the words they used, but the melody of their voice filled me with joy. I would stare at the stars. I would stare at them staring at the stars. The magic lived in them together.

These were my favorite moments. I would close my eyes, the long day done. The scents of wildness had been thoroughly investigated and, when necessary, rolled in. Rivers had been swam in, mountains climbed, rocks marked, sticks chewed. I would close my eyes, belly full, body tired. The warmth, the glow, the melody. I would close my eyes and feel the magic.
