Amphitryte is more than just a little confused, doubly so because s/he has two heads. That's double the confusion right there. S/he has distinct memories of once having had only one head, and being female, but since neither end can agree, s/he can't really be that sure. Ever since s/he went all scribbly, his/her thought processes have been rather sketchy too. The other pets say Amphi will eventually recover and become somewhat less scrambelled, but for now this poor pet spends long hours trying to have conversations with itself and the couch. the others are very careful not to take Amphi to the furniture store.
