Malevola

The name translates to “the flying malice”. She is described as a giant lasirus, black in colour, surrounded by a purple aura. She is often linked to the Goddess Maleria, with some sources describing her as a helper or familiar to the goddess, and others suggesting that she is in fact Maleria in lasirus form. Others consider her to be autonomous, and variably a spirit, a demi-goddess, or simply a creature. Most viewpoints hold to Malevola being a singular, immortal being, but a few cryptozoologists theorize that a very large species of lasirus is responsible for the sightings of Malevola throughout the centuries. This view is met by skepticism by those who point out that documented sightings are not particularly rare, go back over a millenium, and have never reported more than one individual.

Malevola is believed to live in the mountain range called Riensol (“no sun”), which is so named for its deep crevasses, supposedly impenetrable to sunlight. She is said to be partial to human flesh, and there are tales of her snatching babies to eat. Darkside children are sometimes threatened with the spectre of being carried off and devoured by Malevola if they are naughty or stray outdoors at night. She is said to have magical powers which are often attributed to rare magical gases that vent in Riensol. There is no mining or refining activity in Riensol due to the dangerous nature of the area, so the properties of the particular gases to be found there are unknown.

There is said to be a cult dedicated to Malevola. Its members are reported to be mostly those whose Ji-Meneb heritage is least mixed with any other. No member of such a cult has ever been identified, and no activities have ever been reliably documented, but evidence of cultic activities has been found, including candle stubs, lasirus masks, carvings of lasiri and objects thought to be offerings, including bowls containing traces of blood.
