A wyrm isn't born with an abyssal appetite. When he is young, he hides under the ground seen by no one, harming none and being harmed by none. They feast on decay, turning what was bright and alive into the pungent black earth. But there are many things that are buried in the ground, and what he found he did not understand. It was hard, glistening like sunlight and cold as ice. He curled his lengths around it, clinging to it with curious desperation. His black, twisted flesh did not reflect the gleam of his treasure, and with every glance he wanted it more and more to be a part of him. He swallowed the frozen sunshine and it embedded itself in his heart. That wound spoke to him. It told him such a small collection was not fit for a wyrm of his size. For now he was large and strong and ready to burst forth into the daylight realm with a hunger for blood. It was easy to discover and devour his first victim amongst the children of men. But a wyrm's hunger is never satisfied, and so the great monsters are feared and met at the far end of a righteous blade. So it was that as the long fang equally cold as that which was freezing the wyrm's heart embedded itself deep amidst the corrupting glitter and spilled forth his blood, he made a silent wish to himself for some of the warmth he had felt when he was just a boy, as fertile and full of promise as the dark, moist earth from which seeds grew. And as for the wyrm, he broke off the smallest part of himself and escaped through the gushing wound, in to the soil from which he too had sprung, this time, knowing where that which glistens was found.
