A strong disturbance in the forest's energy roused the forest's keeper from her slumber. Nimynn's head shot up, and she whipped her head around trying to sense where it had come from. She could just barely hear quick, shallow breaths in the distance. Her eyes widened as she realized what had happened.

It can't be.

She fumbled as she tried to stand, her legs still numb from being folded beneath her for so long. Despite her numbness, she began to run. Leaving the sunlit clearing behind, she leaped into the forest undergrowth and pursued the sound. The forest and all of its inhabitants were her children, and her life was inextricably tied to theirs. Each step was one step closer to helping her child, but the closer she got, the more she could feel the scorching pain coursing through her. She pushed forward, ignoring it as best she could.

I'm coming, I promise.

As the pain grew, she felt her body rapidly begin to weaken. Her normally graceful legs were failing her, and one missed leap sent her tumbling to the ground. She attempted to pull herself, but her legs shook and collapsed beneath her. The pain was nearly overwhelming, but the sound of her children in pain pushed her forward.

I can't give up, not now!

The forest guardian summoned all of her energy and determination, and she forced herself up through the pain. Her legs were still weak, but she wouldn't let them fail her now. She trotted forward, careful to avoid any branches or roots that might trip her. At the first chance, she broke into sprint, and she could soon smell the blood. She was close to the edge of the forest now.

I'm coming for you!

Thick undergrowth gave way to grass as she reached the forest's edge. She slowed down as she came into the open, and she followed her senses as she tracked the strong stench of blood to a nearby group of trees. She found a small rabbit lying against one of the trees, blood oozing from its side. As she approached the rabbit, she discovered man-made object protruding from the wound. The rabbit looked up at her with a look of complete terror, as if it had seen a true monster, and the forest guardian felt her skin raise in anger. She wouldn't lose another one of her children because of them. She couldn't lose another one of her children because of them. She would do everything in her power to stop this.

Nimynn closed her eyes and began to call upon the forest's soothing magic. As she felt the raw magic course through her, she turned her anger into pure determination. She opened her eyes and gazed down at the rabbit with, smiling and reassuring it that everything would be okay.

Rest easy little one, I'm here to help you.

She pressed her nose the rabbit's cheek, and she began to channel the magic in it. The magic forced the shiny, man-made object from the wound, sparing the small rabbit as much pain as possible. It fell to the ground with an unnatural clang, and Nimynn did her best to ignore it and focus on the task at hand. Slowly but surely, the blood around the began to dry, and the wound began to close. The rabbit's breathing began to deepen and finally slow. All that was left of the wound was the bright red stain on the rabbit's fur.

The rabbit looked up at Nimynn once more. This time it's eyes were filled with love and gratitude. It touched its nose to Nimynn's, and Nimynn felt their hearts connect. Her heart was filled with the rabbit's warmth, but the moment felt overwhelmingly bittersweet. She hated that this even happened, and she would work tirelessly to prevent it from happening again. But for now, she decided she would just enjoy this moment of pure love.

I love you, and I'll always be here for you.
