Hello everyone, my name is Nessa du Loche but please call me Nessie. Now that I've moved to land and can have a computer, I decided to try out this whole blog thing. Let's start with the basics...

Full name: Nessa du Loche
Age: A sea monster never tells her age!
Species: Maricolin
Origin: Originally from off the northern coast of Sacred Lands, but recently moved a little cottage in Delphi Beach.

I've spent most of my life in a sheltered community off the coast of the Sacred Lands. My family always told me it was the best place for our kind because the people there respected the mythological creatures of the deep. However, I have hit that age in my life where I need to find my own way. To move around in my own skin and discover who I am. I recently traveled around Subeta and settled just off the warm ocean currents of Delphi Beach. This is the first time I have really been around people my own age. I just love visiting Delphi Museum of Art and strolling down the boardwalk, taking in all the people, fashion, and oh the music!! Now that I have explored the oceans of Subeta, I can't wait to explore all the cities on land. Maybe one day I will even travel to Atebus!! I bet no Maricolin has ever been to space.

June 9th

The date had started out so well! Just the other day, while I was perusing the new exhibit at the Modern Art Museum this gorgeous human boy walked right up to me and starting chatting. This was a first! I was so excited. Not only did he seem interested in me but my species didn't seem to bother him at all. However, once on my date this dreamboat wasn't all he was cracked up to be. After a bit of small talk and simple pleasantries, we started talking more about our interests. The boy would not stop talking about his cats!! Those furry little critters just give me the creeps. All fur and whiskers... creeping about at night... *shudders* At least the cookies were fabulous!

By the time the entree was served, I was ready to bolt. This was not going well at all. Thankfully, I stumbled on a distraction. A striking couple was just seated at the table next to me. Both of them were talk, dark, and extremely mysterious. As soon as the maître d' left them their menus, they immediately launched into a hushed but intense conversation. Almost like they had already been in the middle of it before they were seated. I couldn't help but steal glances at the pair. One of them even had horns! Maybe they were Ji-Meneb. Another storied race living on the planet. I grew up reading about the people of Meneb and their culture. In a way, their existence was nearly parallel to my own people. Too bad they were speaking in their native tongue, I would have loved to know what was so important!!

Just as I was subconsciously leaning back a little in my chair, what's his name, my date, called out my name. I was so startled that I tipped back too far, crashed to the floor with my chair! I was completely mortified! Even more humiliating, one of the mysterious strangers was standing over my when I looked up. I tried to peek at him through my bangs, hoping that he really wasn't looking down at me. Instead I saw him take off his glasses and offer me a hand. Oh my! Those eyes! I have never seen that shade of green before. I could not take my eyes off his and the last thing I wanted to do was let go of his hand.

"Are you alright? You seemed to have hit the floor pretty hard." he said in a beautifully deep voice.

I blushed and cast my eyes down, "I'm just fine. Thank you for helping me up."

"My name is Steffan and this is my twin sister, Amara." Amara extended her hand to shake mine. I noticed that Amara had woven her hair intricately around her horns, almost as if to conceal them but only making them more striking.

"Oh! My name is Nessa du Loche and it is a pleasure to meet you both."

Steffan gently took one of my hands in both of his. "I have read about your people before but I had never thought I would actually meet one of the Maricolin. You must join us! My sister and I would love to talk with you."

I could feel the warmth rushing to my face. "I would love to! I have so many questions of my own."

Steffan pulled out a chair at their table as Amara called for another wine glass. My poor date sat all alone, completely forgotten with his almost empty plate of cookies.

I've been having the best luck! Just the other day while I was picking up a flyer for the new exhibit featuring Delphi's very own Giselle at the Modern Art Museum, I just happened to notice an announcement stating that the Museum was also looking to hire a new docent. Not only was this a great opportunity for me, but the Museum was in easy walking distance from my cottage. I smashed the interview and they asked me to start right away! I was the happiest I've ever been. My parents had always made life on the surface sound so exhausting and tedious. Not only had I landed a job in my favorite spot in Delphi Beach, but I made some amazing new friends in Steffan and Amara.

Unfortunately, when I dressed for work that morning in my brand new docent's blazer, I forgot to check the weather. I grew up never really having to worry about the weather on the surface. It's effects rarely impacted my daily life. Since I moved to land, I've only experienced the lovely summer weather of Delphi Beach. With summer nearly at its end, fall weather was starting to roll in, including unexpected rain showers.

While on my way to work for the very first day, strolling through the park, it started pouring! All around me, I saw as people popped open their umbrellas or pulled up their hoods to avoid getting soaked. While the water didn't bother me, I am a sea creature, I didn't want to make a bad impression at the Museum. I ducked under a large tree to avoid as much of the rain as possible and watched as the park cleared quickly as all the people hurried off to dryer places. What was I to do?! As I stood there, trying to keep my new blazer dry, I spotted the famous actress and designer Giselle under one of her trademark Frog umbrellas. I couldn't believe it! I knew Giselle was from Delphi and returned frequently, but I never thought I would ever see her in person. After I shook off the shock of seeing someone I truly admired, I noticed that Giselle seemed to be walking in the direction of the Museum. I gathered my courage and dashed out into the rain, hoping to meet Giselle and slip under her umbrella.

Luckily, the rain seemed to soften as I dashed across the park to duck under Giselle's umbrella, sticking out my right hand."Hello! My name is Nessa du Loche and I'm a huge fan!"

Giselle greeted me with a warm smile and shook my hand. "It is always a pleasure to meet one of my fans, even in the middle of a deluge. Where are you headed, Nessa?"

"Please, call me Nessie, all my friends do. I'm headed to the Museum." I indicated the badge hanging from her lapel, "Today is my first day."

"Oh, how delightful! Let me walk with you, Nessie. I was just headed there myself to finalize my new exhibit."

I was overjoyed! We continued our conversation in the rain, as we headed for the Museum.

For as long as I could remember, I would go with my parents to the surface once a year when the Maricolin would meet with the Saheric people that lived on the northern coast of the Sacred Lands. Also, for as long as I could remember, I would spend those council meetings playing with Nada. As young girls, we would run up and down the beach, playing in the surf and hunting for shells. As we got older, it shifted to giggling about boys and watching tv in Nada's family's beach house. Our favorite show was about a gallant hero from the faraway planet of Gallirey. Both of us wished we could be swept up in an impossible adventure.

Now that this was my first year living on the surface, we thought it would be great fun to celebrate the new season by dressing up as our favorite Doctors. I was so excited to not only show my best friend in the entire world my new place and gush about my new job, but the season was getting ready to start!! This was the first time we decided to dress up too. I scourged the local vintage shops hoping to find the best pieces for my outfit and spent hours playing with my hair to find the best way to mimic Ten's coiffed do.

All that is left to do was to pick up some Jelly Babies and settle in, so I gotta run! Sorry for such a short entry, I'll write more next time.

August 4th

It's funny how life works sometimes. For the last two months Steffan has been calling me to chat for hours almost everyday and even popping up at the Museum to enjoy my tours. A few days ago, Steffan invited me on an overnight cruise around the bay off Veta Lake to enjoy the magnificent views of the cliffs as fall starts to take its hold. I have already perused the brochure that guaranteed the trees would be a riot of color standing above the stark cliffs. I had my bags all packed and I was waiting for Steffan. He would be there any minute to pick me up!!

Ring ring!!! Ring ring!!

I picked up my phone to see that Nada was calling. Although I loved hearing from my friend, I was in a bit of a rush to finish preparing my bag."Hello Nada! What's up?"

"Oh Nessie! You just won't believe it. You remember that job I was applying for at the travel agency in Delphi Beach?"

As I tried to answer, Nada launched into the rest of her story.

"Well, they hired me!! In fact, they need to me to start tomorrow. Isn't that amazing!?!"

"That is great news Nada! Tomorrow? Have you found a place to stay? You know you are always welcome to stay here with me."

"That won't be necessary. One of the perks is a cute little cottage right there in Delphi Beach!! In fact, the ship just landed and I need a huge favor."

I could hear the pleading in her voice with a touch of desperation.

"Of course, Nada, whatever you need. I'm here for you."

"Oh thank you!! I'm going to need your help moving in. I was able to bring my furniture with me on the ship over. The ship's crew is unloading it right now. I've already rented a truck to get everything to my new place, but I'm going to need help getting everything back off the truck."

My heart sank. My friend needed me and I would be there for her, but that meant breaking my date with Steffan. He seemed like a very understanding guy but we were both looking forward to the time alone.

I sighed quietly to myself. "Of course Nada." I forced some enthusiasm into my voice. "I just have to change my shoes and I will head out to the harbor."

"Great!! I can't wait to see you, neighbor!"

I clicked my phone off and went to the closet for a pair of jeans and my shoes. Just as I finished dressing, I heard the doorbell. Oh no!! I had forgotten to call Steffan to tell him the bad news.

As I opened the door, my heart sank again at the delight on his face. "Steffan, I have some bad news. Why don't you step in a moment while I grab my bag."

I saw the concern on his face. "What's going on Nessie? Is everything alright?"

"I have to cancel on you today." I studied her feet, I couldn't bear to look into those eyes as the delight drained from them. "Nada just called. She's in a bind and needs my help."

As I stole a peek up at him, I could see that not only was the delight still shining from his eyes but he also had a soft smile on his lips. "That is one of the things I adore about you, Nessie. You have such a big heart. I don't want you to worry about missing the cruise." He paused. "Is everything ok with Nada?"

Steffan had met Nada when she was in town for the Doctor Who marathon. The two of them got along really well.

"Actually, everything is perfect. She was hired at the travel agency and they want her to start tomorrow. They even set her up with a little cottage right here in town. She just landed and needs my help moving her furniture in."

Steffan's smile widened. "You know, I'm actually pretty fantastic at moving furniture. Why don't I tag along and help you ladies?"

I couldn't believe it! What I thought was going to ruin my whole day in fact turned into fabulous opportunity to spend the day with my two favorite people.

"That is amazing Steffan! Thank you so much! We have to get going though. When I last spoke with Nada, they were loading her things in a rented truck."

With that we both stepped out the door so I could lock it. All smiles, I jumped into Steffan's car to head down to the harbor. Maybe we would order some pizza from Elwood's later....

September 8th

I've been looking forward to this week since I moved to land. Centropolis was all a buzz with activity as the whole town prepared for Fashion Week. Steffan surprised me with tickets to all the best designer shows as a makeup date for missing out on the cruise. He also included an amazing corset from one of my favorite design houses to wear to the show!! I couldn't believe I actually had a piece of GothCloth all of my own!

I have always loved fashion but now I was going to finally get to immerse myself into fashion's biggest event. This was a dream come true!

As a young girl, I would read all the fashion magazines, knew all the top designers, and would practice my catwalk turns. Once I grew into a young woman, even though fashion remained close to my heart, I was drawn more to the world of fine art.

But what am I doing typing up a blog entry? I have a trip to pack for!

September 15th

It has been an exciting and long week. I was just so overwhelmed from all the sights and experiences. Although I couldn't have asked for a better time with Steffan, I was ready to get back to my quiet little cottage and my peaceful tours at the Museum. In fact, were all set to head back to Delphi the very next day. However, there was just one more event to cap off my Fashion Week experience. Steffan really wasn't telling me much at all. Just that I should be well rested.

When I woke from my nap, I found a large gift box in my room. On top was a note addressed to me:

Quote:
Dearest Nessie,

I've had the most amazing week with you. I have picked this up for you to wear this evening. I will be there to pick you up at 9.

S

Intrigued, I opened the box. Inside the box, after digging through mounds of tissue paper, I found the most exquisite dress!! All silk and lace and ruffles! It was a dress straight out of a fairytale. With nine still a couple of hours away, I wanted to take the time to dress up properly.

Steffan arrived in his usual perfectly punctual manner in a long dark limousine and an equally dark tuxedo. We both enjoy some chilled champagne on the way to the mysterious event. This man of mine could be a complete mystery when he wanted to be.

After what seemed to only minutes, but in reality was two glasses of champagne, we arrived at our destination. I peered out the window of the limousine and marveled at the enormous home that was all a blaze with lights and music. I had never seen anything like this before. As I stepped out of the limousine, holding Steffan's outstretched hand, I couldn't help but feel like a princess. This really must be what they felt like at the climax of their stories. I was filled with awe, so much so that I seemed to float across the entry.

"Oh Steffan!" I whispered, clutching his arm. "This is all so much. I couldn't even begin to thank you."

I looked up at his vividly green eyes. He smiled.
"The smile on your lovely face is enough for me, Nessie. This past week has been the absolute best."

With that, he put his arms around me. Gently pulled me into his embrace and kissed me tenderly.
My first kiss!

"Now, why don't you say we enjoy the party?"

I beamed, from ear to ear.

"Absolutely."

We danced all night. Enjoyed the live music and the food. I truly was a princess that night. Too bad I had to return to the beach after all.

March 15th

Six months later...

I am so sorry it has been so long since my last entry. I have so much to catch up on! Life on the surface has been nothing like my parents feared. Not only am I happy and healthy, but I haven't faced any of the prejudice my parents thought I might find. Maybe it helps that I live in such an eclectic and bohemian community or maybe Subeta has just become more connected. Whatever the reason, I am truly grateful for it.

For nearly the last year, I felt like I live a charmed life. My best friend in all the world lives just down the block and we get to hang out at least once a week. In fact, Nada has recently started dating this cute guy she met at the Farmer's Market. It's too soon to tell where it will lead, but it's nice to see her out there dating. I am even planning a diabolical double date in the near future.

Speaking of my love life, things with Steffan are still going strong. In fact, today is exactly six months since our first kiss at the end of Fashion Week. Tonight he is my date at the Museum's massive yearly gala to feature up and coming new artists. The Museum is featuring a stunning new talent that I found on a trip back home while passing though Sacred Lands. This young man has a way with light and color that just took my breath away!! This gala is also my first major show as the new Assistant Curator at the Delphi Museum of Modern Art and my body is alive with nervous energy.

I have asked Steffan to go get us a couple of glasses of wine. The poor guy just isn't acting like himself! He's all nervous and he keeps patting his jacket pocket. Usually Steffan is completely at ease at functions like this, but he is acting the exact opposite tonight. I figure a glass of wine will help to calm both of our nerves. I also figured that I should write a quick blog entry to announce the good news of my promotion while I waited.

I wonder what is taking him so long...
