"Roadkilled"
Found dead
Along the road
Animals getting hit crossing the road is a common occurrence here. I'd seen plenty of unfortunate souls perish there, day in and day out. Some of them became my supper, or lunch, depending on when I happened by. I knew one day it would be me lying there, lifeless.
Crushed
Split open
Flattened
Punctured by bone
And what would you know, there I was, a mangled mess dead on the side of the road. More like my body was dead, but I myself was not. I could still move, albeit in a bit of a stiff, shambling manner, so I continued on my way. So what if my life was gone? I didn't need it anyway.
Picked up
Skinned
Salvaged
Returned to earth
As I slept one night, along the often traveled road, someone picked me up. I stirred a little in the back of the pickup truck as it rattled towards its destination, but played "dead" as soon as the girl could see me; I didn't really want to scare her. She strung me up by my hind feet in a shed and carefully removed what was left of my pelt. It didn't hurt and I was glad my fur would be of use to her. She then buried me out in the woods, leaving a small bunch of flowers on my grave. So what if my skin was gone? I didn't need it anyway.
Rotting
Decaying
Degrading
Food for flies
I unburied myself as the night turned to day, and wandered off into the forest. Flies, beetles and their larvae began to make themselves at home in my muscles and organs. I found I enjoyed listening to to them munch away, and with every day that passed, they grew fatter and I grew skinnier. Eventually, all I had left were my bones. So what if my muscles and innards were gone? I didn't need them anyway.
Another one
Found dead
Made beautiful again
Now here I am today, simply a wandering spirit. It took decades, but eventually my bones degraded and returned to the earth from whence they came. But that's okay; they became the colorful flowers and mighty trees. So what if my body is gone? I don't need it anyway.
