[You awaken inside a ship's hold. You can remember very little of the night before, but the smell of rum lingering on your shirt quickly reminds you of the tavern in which you had attempted to drown away your sorrows.]

. . .

[You look around, but cannot for the life of you remember how you got aboard a ship, nor how you ended up inside its hold. You decide to search for an exit.]

! ! !

[You find a door and you're free! However, as you hurry up a set of steep stairs, you freeze. A tall, monstrous looking creature is walking down, straight towards you! The beast almost appears to be a man, save for the horns upon his brow and the tusks protruding from his lower jaw. He is dressed as a man, you notice after your heart has decided not to launch itself from your chest, as he is wearing a large, grey coat and a black tri-corn hat over what appears to be blue, feathered hair that shifts down his jaw in the form of sideburns.]

? ? ?

[You are stunned into silence as you stare up at this...thing, mouth agape. He looks down at you and you can see his eyes are blue and, despite the slit pupils, have a human quality to them-- an almost sad quality. He reaches up and you can see his fingers are webbed and each is tipped with long claws. You draw back in surprise, and the man pauses before he continues to reach up in order to remove his hat.]

(???): "One side, sailor."

[You shuffle to the side immediately, your instincts guiding you more than your ears. The man moves past you then ducks under the low doorway before he steps inside the hold. He glances back at you and his brow furrows slightly. You panic, worried you have done something to anger this fierce looking creature. After a moment, he looks away from you and you feel relieved enough to let out a long-held breath. He slams the door shut behind him and you flinch.]

? ? ?

[Numbly, you continue up the stairs until you are standing up on the deck of a large ship. The deck sways under your feet, but you catch onto a wide banister before you loose your footing. Under the sun, you can see sailors rushing about the deck, going about their duties with ease, but you still find yourself silently wondering how you got here and even where "here" is. Suddenly, you hear a voice behind you.]

(???) "Oh! T'would appear you've met the captain."

[You turn to see what appears to be a seasoned sailor with a rope coiled around one burly arm. He is smirking, a golden-toothed smirk you swear you've seen before.]

(???): "You did right, mate, to keep your mouth shut. Captain's thrown more than his fair share of men overboard for bein' a bit too vocal when confronted with his visage."

[You stare at the sailor, confused. Struggling to find your words, you eventually manage to ask the man who he is.]

(Wulf): "You've forgotten already? Ah, you were a might bit potted last night, so I'll forgive you that. The name's Wulfric, but you can call me Wulf as the others do. Seein' as you've forgotten my name, I'll wager to guess you've forgotten that bit of paper you signed last night? The one which placed you here on board the Ravager?"

[You blink in silent confusion.]

(Wulf): "Aye, that's as I thought. Well, you see, me and my mates were spendin' time ashore. We ran into you, a drunken sorry mess. You was in a desperate way and we was in need of a few new pairs of hands, so we set you up right as a member of the crew! Captain's never too pleased about new hands, but you made his first mate laugh with that fancy little jig of your--"

[You interrupt Wulf, something he isn't too pleased about, but he lets you go. You ask him quickly where the ship is headed and explain that you're no sailor, that this has all been a horrible mistake.]

(Wulf): "Where're we goin'? Well, that'd depend on the Captain. Sacred Lands, the Omen Islands...Wherever suits him most. Don't you fret none, mate, you'll get the hang of it in no time."

[You slump against the railing, the feeling that you're trapped quickly setting in. You try not to panic and resolve that, at the next opportunity, you'll simply get off this ship and never look back. Wulf is staring at you and you feel the need to fill the silence. Without thinking, you ask him what the "captain" even is. Wulf sighs heavily as he scratches at his chin.]

(Wulf): "He's a man, just like anybody else. His name's Nathaniel Haile, but you best stick to "Captain" unless you want a thrashing. He's just a man what's done some awful things in life and has had his body changed to reflect the ugly what's inside him. Wont speak of it none, he won't, but you'll find he's not so frightening as he looks. Word on deck is he chose gold over a lady what saw more in him than there was, and the gold itself cursed his greed. Other theories are abound, you'll find, but that's my favorite. Think it's mostly true too, based on the letters I found once addressed to a lady named "Annette" all from the--"

[Wulf stops as the door to the hold is thrown open again and the strange man- wait was that a tail?- races up onto the deck, a piece of parchment in hand as he moves to the helm.]

(Wulf): "Captain on deck!"

[The other sailors all pause in their work to look up to their captain.]

(Helmsman): "Captain?"

[The Captain holds up the parchment then pulls a compass from his coat before watching it for a long moment. He gives a short nod before speaking loudly.]

(Haile): "West, to Shadowglen! We're getting close."

[There are roars of approval from the crew before they hurry to their work. Before Wulf can leave, you catch him by the arm. "Close to what?" you ask. Wulf grins.]

(Wulf): "Treasure, mate. The haul of a life-time!"
