I was raised to be a sacrifice.
I did not know it at the time. While the other Neela were working, I was living a life of luxury. I was given only the best food and all the comforts I could ever want. All I had to do was be handsome and I excelled at that.
Then one night I was lead to the alter in town. There were fires everywhere and one of the men was sharpening a wicked looking knife. They said only the best would go to the fire and I was the best looking Neela they had ever seen. My blood would bring them many blessings.
Things did not goes as planned. I saw something in the flames. Maybe it was what I was supposed to be sacrificed to, maybe it was a wayward spirit, or something much darker or brighter. All I know is I made a deal with it.
I burn now but I do not die. No knife can make me bleed. I run and the fire comes with me, always with me. This is no life of luxury, it is a better life and I am more beautiful than ever. I may belong to the fire but this is no sacrifice.
This is a life of true honor.
