I don't know how long I have been around. Seems like forever now.

Then again, in an endless desert, forever is kind of meaningless.

I wander this desert, ever changing, ever moving around me like the ocean travelers talk about. There's no landmarks, no real cities except close to water, and I rarely travel to get water. So the desert is never dull, it's full of life if you know where to look.

Me, I just have to at my surroundings to entertain myself

I was born in a place called an oasis, a wellspring of water that plants grow up around in the middle of the desert. My mother told me I was special, a miracle since their kind were experiments not meant to breed, transformed by some machine in some far-away land, and had escaped their owners to here. The small herd made of those transformed into our kind stayed together after escaping their masters, unbothered and wild. And we were happy.

We began to notice plants stuck and grew in our fur, some began to grow flowers and small plants, speaking how it reminded them of another place, far away from the endless desert covered in pure green grass and plants everywhere. It sounds like an unimaginable heaven to me.

Yet on my back, where everyone else only had some small plants and flowers, I have grown a large tree. I am much older now, still living in this oasis, moving about the few trees and plant life. I don't seem to need to eat anymore, though I do sometimes because it tastes good. I still drink, I drink alot, but I think that's normal of our kind.

I'm the biggest of our kind now, my mother has long since passed, as some of the others in our herd, and more have joined us. I will stay here, I'm one of the biggest after all, protecting our herd from danger and bringing in new friends with new stories to hear around the watering hole.

My name? Oh, you can call me Clyde.
