Everyday, people would cut through the park and simply walk past, not giving any thought to the bland wall. Until one day, a magnificent chalk dragon with glimmering scales was drawn across it.
Soon, everyone starting stopping at the wall to admire the dragon, commenting on how beautiful she looked.
The dragon would stand in her wall, wings spread wide, chest puffed out with pride, flashing her brightly-coloured scales to the awe of her onlookers.
"Yes", she thought to herself indulgently, "I truly am the most stunning thing in the whole park."
But then one day, another drawing appeared on the wall, and then another, and another.
Inspired by the dragon, people were now stopping to add their own creations to the large wall, using chalk, pencils, crayons and paints.
This made the chalk dragon very jealous.
Now she wasn't the only "beautiful" illustration in the park.
Luminous flowers, intricate patterns, twisting landscapes, incredible creatures and stunning portraits, as more drawings were added to the wall, her wall, people spent less time admiring her, and more time looking at the other, newer drawings that would appear.
"Hmph", the dragon growled grumpily to herself one day, "if people weren't so busy creating all these new drawings, they'd have more time to admire me."
So she hatched a plan.
Late that night, while everyone slept, the chalk dragon spread her glimmering wings and leapt from her wall in the park.
Soaring through the night, the chalk dragon began dutifully hoarding every piece of chalk, every pot of paint and every single pencil, crayon or paintbrush that she could find from the quiet town.
"There."She thought, as she nestled herself on top of her vibrant mound of stolen treasures.
"Now that no one has anything to create new drawings with, they'll have to go back to admiring me."
